2023-24 School Year Oregon Statewide Assessment Information

Dear Clatskanie Families,

Starting in February, schools will begin to administer the first of Oregon’s statewide assessments. These tests include:

• English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) tests for all students eligible for the English Learner program, beginning February 20th.
• English language arts, mathematics and science summative tests for grade 11, during the week of May 6-10.
• Science summative tests for students in grades 5 and 8 only, during the week of May 6-10.
• English language arts and mathematics summative tests for all students in grades 3-8, during the week of May 6-10.

These tests provide a snapshot of your student’s progress, help your child’s school as well as the district identify groups of students that may need additional support, and provide information to the state which is used to make funding decisions. Additionally, students will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) survey to gather information about the educational experience of all students in Oregon.  Individual results are not made available for the SEED survey.

If you do NOT want your student to take the English language arts or math assessment tests, please complete the English 30-Day Notice for Oregon’s Statewide Assessment of English Language Arts and Mathematics Opt Out form or the Aviso de 30 días sobre los exámenes estatales de Oregón para Artes del Lenguaje Inglés y Matemáticas.

If you do NOT want your student to take the Science, English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) and/or ELPA screener based only on religion or disability, complete the English Science and/or ELPA Opt Out Form or the Solicitud de los padres de familia para la exención de la Evaluación de Ciencia y/o la Evaluación del Dominio del Idioma Inglés de OSAS.

To decline participation in the SEED Survey, complete the English SEED Survey Participation Opt Out form or the Formulario de participación en la Encuesta SEED.

These forms should be turned into your student’s school before testing begins and are only valid for the 2023-2024 school year. If you have any questions about state testing, please contact your child's school.
