October 2023 Newsletter
Welcome to October! We are pleased to share these announcements and upcoming events with the transit data community.
Transit Research-to-Practice Symposium: Oct 24-26
After three successful years, the Transit Research-to-Practice Symposium is coming around again from Oct 24 to 26, 2023. The theme of this free online conference is how research is actually being translated into practice in the transit world. We would love to hear from transit agencies (and MPOs, state agencies, or cities involved in transit) who do research to improve their practices, transit agencies who partner with academics to conduct policy and practice-relevant research, and academics who have partnered with agencies in the implementation of their research. If you fit one of these and would be available to present from Oct 24 to 26, please email kewatkins@ucdavis.edu.

Registration for October Webinar: OpenTripPlanner
Date: October 25, 9am Pacific, noon Eastern, 6pm Central Europe
Hosts: Thomas Craig, WSDOT
Presenter List:
This webinar will spotlight OpenTripPlanner, an open source software application used by hundreds of transit agencies, regional and national governments, companies and researchers to turn GTFS, OSM, and other data sets into rider trip plans. Three different agencies will present on their use of OTP to show the diverse ways different organizations can use the same core software application customized for their local needs. After an overview of the OTP application and community, Hopelink (Seattle), Atlanta-Region Transit Link, and Entur (Norway) will each walk through their implementation of OTP and the unique features they’ve prioritized. This webinar will give you a sense of how a transit-specific global open source software community functions and the diversity of features and system architectures available to OTP users or users of any other trip planning application with open and accessible APIs.
