Strategies to protect your hearing:

  1. Turn it down!

It’s easy to crank up the volume to your favorite song to make it more enjoyable! When the song is over, be sure to keep the volume below the halfway mark.  If you find the volume creeping up over two-thirds of the volume, it is too loud!

If you are using headphones during remote learning, check to see if your preferred volume is safe. You can do this by turning the sound up the preferred volume. Then hold the headphones out in front of you at an arm’s length. If you can hear the music or sound clearly, it’s too loud!

  1. Move away from the noise!

If you can’t turn the volume down, move away from the noise.

  1. Wear hearing protection!

If you can’t turn the volume down, or move far enough away from the loud sound, you can wear hearing protectors such as earplugs or earmuffs.

Always try to take regular breaks from listening to music or TV during the day to give your ears a much-needed rest!
