Junior High Summer Reading

All students entering grades 6, 7, or 8 for the 2020-2021 school year are required to read
at least two books: one must be an award-winner.  The required books must be at least 150 pages. Any genre is acceptable, no DWK books will count toward your reading goal of two books.

There are many good sites to get ideas for books, including these:

www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists         https://www.readbrightly.com

www.ala.org/alsc/awards                                 www.lexile.com

Students are encouraged to continue their one/half hour of reading each day as that will be their reading homework requirement during the school year.

If you do not already have a library card, consider visiting your local library to get one.

There will NOT be any tests on the chosen books, but each student is expected to do a BOOKTALK on one of the chosen books.  Included in the BT should be title, author, basic plot outline story summary, lexile level, and recommendations.  Also, students will be expected to answer questions, so preparation is important.

Take the summer challenge:

Read every day.

Don’t get caught in the “Summer Slide.”
