2024-25 PMYC Winter Racing

Sailing Instructions

Presented by the Port Madison Yacht Club              

Scoring:

No Scoring will be recorded for winter races. Just for fun and to get out on the water.  Awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd will be given for every race.

Handicapping:

Use PHRF-NW rating from any year that has current boat configuration. Pursuit Time on Distance will be used for this series.

(Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024) “RRS” is to be used unless SI contradicts with RRS, Then SI takes precedence.

REGISTRATION: Participants with intent to race are required to sign up weekly and can be done HERE!! 

Race Cancellations: Races will be canceled 6 hours ahead if less than 3 boats sign up, Temperature is below 40°F , Heavy wind (25+ KTS), or rain.

Start time:

Check on PMYC "PMYC Winter Races" webpage. First start for 300 PHRF is at 13:00. This is a Pursuit style start.  CHEAT SHEET!!!!

Course:

Will be displayed as signal flag. reference to Winter Races Webpage. *If “Answering Pendent” is used course will be displayed on Kwindoo.

Start Time:

Will be displayed as signal flag. Round to nearest 10 PHRF.

Start:

The start line will be displayed on the Kwindoo App. The start line between Halverson Buoy and Start Mark.

Finish: Finish is on the Kwindoo App. or Finish is on parallel of COBI no wake buoy at entrance of Hidden Cove, Roughly 3rd dock on left.  If Kwindoo was not used to track race, record finish time to nearest second and email to (sailingvesselbravo@gmail.com).

Race tracking: All participants are asked to download and use the Kwindoo Tracking App throughout the race series (available for IOS + Android). THERE WILL BE NO FORMAL RACE COMMITTEE for Sunday races so Kwindoo will record your start and finish. Track within the PMYC 2023 Sunday Races. As a reminder, ensure you have an ability to charge your phone throughout the race. App is available here: Kwindoo 

Time limit: 15 Minutes before Official Sunset for Seattle on day of race.

Communication: Monitor VHF channel 69

The 2023-2024 PMYC winter race schedule

Races will be every Sunday starting September 29th thru April 6th.  except November 3rd.

DISCLAIMER:  Competitors participate entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage, sickness, personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after this event.  Vessels shall comply with USCG safety regulations and should be prepared to sail in heavy wind, after dark, in the presence of both commercial and naval warfare traffic, and in the presence of large marine mammals (stay away from whales, RCW 77.15.740).  Competitors are recommended to wear PFD's.  An operating VHF is recommended.  An auxiliary motor is recommended.
