Throttle

On mid-transom; combines direction and speed

Shifting

• To engage the transmission, lift the end of the throttle control about 1/4" and move the lever to either the forward or reverse position.
• When shifting from forward to reverse, the end of the throttle control needs to be lifted up each time when going through neutral.
• To disengage transmission, grasp the base of the throttle, pull it out about 3/8" while moving the throttle one way or the other to advance the throttle about 1/3.
• Speed can be adjusted by moving the lever.
• The transmission is disengaged as long as the lever does not move into neutral.

Engine Starting

1. In neutral, advance the throttle approximately 1/3
2. Insert key and turn to “on”; buzzer and light should sound
3. Push in the start button for about 5-10 seconds and the engine should start
4. At this point the audible alarm should turn off. If not, Stop the engine.
5. Check transom for water and exhaust (turn engine off immediately if no water is pumping out through the exhaust)
6. After the engine starts, move the throttle back to neutral position before switching into gear.

Stop Engine

In neutral, pull the stop cable until the engine stops. When the alarm sounds, turn the key to “off”.

AC Electrical Switches

House Battery Switch

Bottom of companionway to port. Stays on “both”. DO NOT CHANGE. 

Battery Charging

Charged by either shore power (make sure AC power and battery charger switch are turned ON) or by running the engine.

Monitoring Batteries

Monitor levels when using DC services while the engine is not running.

Battery voltmeter is next to the AC panel.

DC Electrical Panel

Located on the port bulkhead; next to the chart table.

Location: At the helm

To Operate:

• In main cabin, turn “GPS” switch on the DC panel to “on”

Navigation Instruments

Location: Above the companionway

To Operate:

• In main cabin, turn “instruments” switch on the DC panel to “on”
• Depth, speed and wind will read automatically. Do NOT change settings.

Sails

Headsail

Jib is on a rolling furler. Jib sheets lead back to the cockpit.

• Uncleat the furling line and unfurl slowly (especially on windy days)
• Get 2-3 wraps around the jib with the sheets when done and lock off sheets on cleats or winches

Mainsail

Mainsail is fully battened.

• Halyard runs along the port side to the cockpit clutch.
• The cunningham loop goes through webbing on the sail and attaches to a metal hook at the tack fitting.
• Maintain figure 8 knot in the fine tune purchase.
• Coil lines in a figure 8 or loop and put them loosely on the winch. Do not tie them up.

Location: Beneath starboard settee

Head

Operation

Nothing goes in the bowl that has not been consumed first.

Do not flush toilet paper → put TP in trash.

Make sure the water intake seacock is open (located under the v-berth, port side)

Head Operation: 

1. Open seacock for intake
2. Move selector switch to wet bowl
3. Pump 3-5 times to allow water into the bowl
4. After use, move the selector switch to “dry bowl” and pump contents until the bowl is empty.
5. Move the switch back to “wet bowl”, pump again a few times to bring in water, then change to “dry bowl”, pumping water through until the bowl is empty.
6. Close seacock for safety

**Never pump the tank overboard**

Bilge Pump

Bilge Pump (Electric)

3-way switch on panel underneath the DC panel. Hold to “manual” for continuous or “auto” for intermittent with a float switch. Always leave the switch on “auto” before leaving the boat.

Bilge Pump (Manual)

Location: Aft port the cockpit. The bilge pump handle is stored in the cabinet under the chart table.

To Operate:

1. Insert handle into socket
2. Move the handle up and down to allow the pump to prime. When the pump is primed, moving the handle will be harder, but keep pumping as water is moving through and out the bilge exit thru hull. Pumping will become easier as water exits the boat.
3. Remove the handle and place it back in the cabinet.

Seacock located in a cabinet under the sink. It is normally kept closed. If drain needs to be  used, open seacock to allow liquid to leave, but close when done.

Primary anchor: Primary anchor in v-berth locker opposite head. A Danforth anchor with 200’ rope rode unmarked in two 100’ sections. Always anchor off of port pow to prevent damage to the bowsprit.
