Executive Meeting
September 21, 2020

Board Members Present: Kathy Albertson, Diane Camiolo, Peggy Francis, Amy Fratz, Jackie Gould, Catherine Kelly, Michelle Marhefka, Helen Musumeci, Barbara Priggemeier, and Beverly Siti
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:12 p.m. by President Catherine Kelly.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the March 9, 2020 Executive Meeting were approved (Camiolo, Gould) as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Diane Camiolo reported balances of $2,674.27 in our checking account and $1,748.28 in our Stipend account. All members paid their annual dues except Wendy Crawford who has moved to Florida. The report was filed for audit.
Diane presented a budget for the upcoming year via email on August 8, 2020. After review by the Executive Committee, a motion was made (Camiolo/Fratz) to send the budget on to the general membership for approval.
Correspondence: Barbara Priggemeier thanked the membership for cards sent to her during her recent recovery from knee surgery.
President Catherine added that DKGNJ will send out cards to members on behalf of the State if Corresponding Secretary Gail Starr is notified.
President’s Report:
- President Catherine thanked the Formers for the back-to-school gifts sent to working Sisters. These gifts are greatly appreciated during the pandemic’s current impact on the field of education.
- President Catherine attended (via Zoom) two Presidents’ meetings over the summer.
- An article for the State’s fall newsletter recapping Pi’s recent activities and efforts to “keep connected” is due October 1st.
- A virtual Leadership Conference will be held on October 17, 2020 with guest speaker Dena Breslin. All are invited to attend, but registration must be completed by October 10th. An informational email will be sent to members.
- Our first General Membership Meeting will be held via Zoom on October 15th. The
program will focus on membership recognition, and President Catherine will prepare an icebreaker activity.
First Vice-President’s Report:
First Vice-President Amy Fratz is looking for potential activities for 2020-21 that can be enjoyed virtually.
Second Vice-President MaryEllen Malloy was not present at the meeting.
Committee Reports:
- There were no reports from the following committees: Membership, Record Book, Yearbook, Awards, Social/Hospitality, Retirees, Music, or Technology.
- Finance: Linda Behm successfully performed the annual audit of Pi’s finances.
- History/Archives: At an Historian Chapter Meeting in August, all Chapters were asked to create a spreadsheet with up-to-date, accurate membership information from the chapter’s inception to the present day. Mary Conover has asked Diane Camiolo and Beverly Siti for help with this endeavor.
- Rules/Bylaws: Diane Camiolo reported that four minor changes in language regarding virtual meetings will be forthcoming.
- Nominations/Installation: President Kelly welcomed Michelle Marhefka to the Board. Michelle asked for and received clarification of her duties.
- Communications: Jackie Gould requested that all newsletter articles be sent to her by October 1st.
- Necrology: Kathy Albertson attended a Necrology meeting with discussion focused on events being done virtually.
- Convention: The 2021 State Convention will be held virtually on April 16-18. In addition to the regular workshops, the Committee is investigating ways to include some fun, social activities that usually occur at Convention.
The Executive Board will be selecting a recipient for the Key Award to be awarded at
Convention.
- Scholarship/Stipends: Two stipends were given out at the end of June. President Kelly will contact Lori Bathurst for information on the recipients.
- World Fellowship: New scholars have not yet been identified for the 2020-21 year. A motion was made (Camiolo/Albertson) and carried to make a $50.00 contribution to World Fellowship International.
- Book Club: Beverly Siti reported that Pi’s book group will discuss The Silent Patient by
Alex Michaelides via Zoom on October 1, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
Old Business:
- New and used children’s books are still being collected for the state-wide project, “For the Love of Books.” These books will be distributed to underprivileged children in NJ.
New Business:
- This year’s membership goals are: five new members; personal and professional growth; service to others.
- Pi’s Strategic Action Plan must be revised.
- An updated addition of Robert’s Rules of Order has been published to include electronic meetings. A motion was made (Siti/Musumeci) and carried to purchase a copy for Pi Chapter’s use.
