Sept. 24, 2018

Dear Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope that everyone had a great weekend and was able to enjoy the first fall weekend.

Here is a photo from the Kick off of BATMAiNe at Maine Audubon.  Sebago 7 students met Brownie and Betty, two bats from the Center for Wildlife.

Last week Ron Berger, EL Education expert on social emotional learning, spent a day working with staff and students on Crew and community. He met with each grade emphasizing our strengths and our opportunities for building relationships and solving problems through Crew.  Our 6th grade orientation with our new partner, Ripple Effect, was an example of our ongoing efforts to build community. Rippleffect will also work with our 8th grade students next month.  We are committed to continuing our work to build character and to take preventative steps to avoid incidents like the one last week.

Important Update from PPS:

The Portland Public Schools is undertaking an Enrollment and Facility Study to evaluate the most effective and efficient use of our school buildings.

The Portland Board of Public Education is expected to vote at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25, on forming an Enrollment and Facility Study Commission to review the district's current and projected enrollment and programming against existing facility use. The board’s meeting will be held in room 200 of Casco Bay High School and will begin following the conclusion of a 5:30 p.m. executive session.

The goal of the Commission is to identify and recommend possible efficiencies to the Portland Board of Public Education. The Commission will include Board members, City Councilors, district staff, and up to 6 community members. Community members will be chosen to represent diverse backgrounds and expertise. If you are interested in applying for a seat on the Commission as a community member, the deadline is October 1, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Please click here for the Application.

A Community Survey is one of the tools that will be used to gather input from the public.  Please click here for the Survey.
