January 11, 2022 Campus Notification: COVID-19

The university received notification of 5 separate and unrelated individuals that tested positive for COVID-19 and were on campus at the Recreation Center as part of the asymptomatic testing event on January 10 while they may have been potentially infectious.  

Our campus along with the surrounding community and region is experiencing an increase in reported COVID cases, exposures and individuals experiencing COVID like symptoms. To the extent possible, contact tracing is being conducted in these cases. When possible, individuals identified as a “close contact” will be contacted by our case management team and/or the local health department regarding any next steps. In the meantime, understand that with the increase in reports that not every close contact may be reached so we ask that individuals continue to follow all of the public health mitigation measures and guidelines including:

• Get vaccinated, and when eligible, get your booster as soon as you are able. Checking Genesee County Health Department vaccination website or the MDHHS Vaccination website for vaccination and booster opportunities
• Self-monitor your health daily and complete the ResponsiBLUE screening
• Stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms, regardless of vaccination status and get tested. Report symptoms using the student or employee online reporting forms
• Regardless of vaccination status, get tested if you think you may have been exposed to a confirmed COVID positive person.
• Wear a well fitted face covering that fits snugly over your nose and mouth when indoors
• Avoid large gatherings, especially indoors
• Distance from others, especially where masks are not being worn.

We strongly encourage all members of the campus community to remain vigilant against COVID-19 by adhering to health and safety precautions designed to mitigate the spread of the virus.
