Dan
I’m a brummie living in the capital. After some difficult times around the pandemic I decided to give my future prospects a boost by getting back into education. Currently I’m a freelance tutor. I teach guitar and English (eg GCSE, primary), and I hope to advance this through taking a degree in English. I’ve always written a lot, and studying at Kings’ College London under published academics, poets and novelists I hope to increase my chances of getting some additional work as a freelance writer, perhaps in journalism or educational texts. I write fiction and poetry too. I’m quite ambitious, and I like the idea of getting into something more scholarly, perhaps even lecturing. I’ve spent much of my life as a musician, but this is something I’m less interested in now, other than the professional tutoring I do.
Interests and personality
I enjoy reading. Some favourite books include The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K le Guin, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres, Kafka on the Shore by Murakami, David Copperfield by Dickens, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, and The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy.
I also read history - favourite periods/subjects so far include Soviet Russia, nineteenth century Europe, the French Revolution and World War II.
That’s all pretty heavy isn’t it…
So, in lighter news: I like having a laugh (despite having read books about the Soviet Union), and people say I’m funny (although you can be the judge of that). They’d probably also say I’m a sensitive soul (may as well confess this now), and it’s quite important to me to have long, deeper conversations with people. I could easily chat till 6am to people I click with. I don’t demand this of any prospective partner (!) but I don’t think it would work if our conversations lacked depth. Another thing people say of me is that I put people at ease.
A few more things I enjoy
What do I want from a relationship?
Companionship, fun, comfort, being challenged sometimes, sharing experiences. I love children, so I would like to have kids. I tend to be attracted to big personalities, or at least people who have their own deeper interests, whether that be professional or otherwise. I respect sincerity, but I don’t expect people to tell me everything about them from day one.
Drop me an email if this is your thing (see above for my address).
