With the arrival of Tropical Storm Cristobal to the Midwest, our area will be experiencing winds in excess of 10 mph over the next couple of days. Winds from the tropical storm are forecasted to be 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph through Thursday, with the possibility of rain.
This is good news and bad news. The bad news is that winds above 10 mph prevent us from spraying because the spray will be ineffective due to its quick-dispersing nature. The good news is that Mosquitoes have a very difficult time flying in winds above 10 mph. Therefore, they are likely to be hunkered down for the next few days allowing for a break in mosquito nuisance.
We are watching the weather closely and look to resume spraying as soon as Mother Nature allows. Our hope is that winds subside by Thursday, if not sooner, so we can continue our efforts to knock down biting mosquito populations. We will still be working extra weekend and early morning spray shifts to better get around the Saginaw Community as weather allows.
Larval mosquito control operations are scheduled to continue through this windy period.
