8/30 MS Boys Soccer A-team vs Leman Academy

Well, the boys started off the season with a bang once they figured out how to play on a natural grass field with grass that seemed like it hadn't been mowed in several weeks!  The beginning of the game started slow due to the boys figuring out how to move the ball on the thick grass but they still managed to have several shooting opportunities by 7th graders David Ashouri, Champ Spears, and Wesley Wiers and 8th grader Ryder Wynne

David finally found the back of the net for the first of his 4 goals, 15 minutes into the first half.  He followed his first goal 1 minute later for his second goal.  8th grader Haylen Brown followed a minute later and 8th grader Trey Harker came off the bench and scored a goal 2 minutes after that and the first half ended with Champ Spears finding the back of the net with 15 seconds left in the first half.  8th grader Jake Lawless had great ball movement and crossing passes from the wings and had numerous assists.  8th graders Casen Lowe and Ben Bishop, 7th grader Brecken Atwell, and 6th grader Hudson Dunn did a good job shutting down any kind of offense Leman tried to get going.

The second half started where the first half ended and 8th grader Trey Harker found the back of the net 20 seconds into the second half!! 8th graders Miguel Oswald (Moe) and Harshit Sharma added goals in the second half as well. It was a great start as this team defended their league championship from last year.

8/30 HS Boys JV Soccer vs Denver Jewish Day School

It was a tough afternoon for our JV Boys soccer team as a lot of this group really has not played together before. Freshman Max Nowak picked up his play after a slow start and really took control of the game for us, stepping up his first touch on the ball, taking players on, and battling defensively nearly everywhere on the field. Senior Joel Philopois was a leader vocally and in his work ethic. He played hard and encouraged and directed his teammates the whole time. Sophomore Andrew Bieniek had his first experience as a goalie and had some great 1v1 saves in the second half, especially with it being his first time in goal. Sophomore Landon Dunn did a good job responding to coaching and trying to get involved in the offense more. They all played hard until the end in a game where it would have been much easier to give up and call it quits.

9/1 HS Varsity Boys Soccer vs Beth Eden Baptist

Beth Eden Baptist was no match for SVA's Boys Soccer Team. Senior Anton Reznikov is on a tear, scoring 9 goals in the last two games, adding 4 against Beth Eden Baptist. Senior Jaden Cardenas was a terror on the defensive end, making some great strong runs forward and playing very physical. Senior Caden Eagle was able to get his first two goals of the season, putting a lot of pressure on defense throughout both halves. Junior Ethan Shipley played very well on the left side, taking up a lot of space with some timely tackles. Senior Joel Philopois showed great footwork on the offensive end, getting multiple good touches, and some "hockey assists." This team has improved drastically since last fall and is looking forward to continuing to show their prowess on the field.

9/1 MS Volleyball A and B Team vs Ben Franklin

A-team Coach Angela Kamman began her season by introducing the 6-2 to her girls. This is a very difficult lineup to run, but it will pay dividends as they continue to run it and learn to play together. In the second set, our girls played very well but came up short 26-24. 7th grader Anna Caton played a phenomenal game as the libero. 8th grader Mariella Nylund Marucut ran several serves in a row and helped keep the game close. Captains and 8th graders, Kaia Numoto Rogers and Mackinley Hill did a great job encouraging their fellow teammates throughout. This team will end strong as they show so much potential to be great.

B-team Coach Matt Swanson had two very close sets but the team just could not finish. 7th grader Maya Schmidt had a great serving streak in the second set, giving the team an opportunity to win. 7th grader Fallon McCabe had some great hits for multiple points. 7th grader Neela Strong had her serve humming, firing multiple aces that had no chance of return by the other team. It was an encouraging start and we will see this B-team win multiple games this season.

Boys Golf News:

8/31 HS Boys Varsity Golf Tournament at Hyland Hills-Westminster

The HS Boys Varsity Golf team made it three in a row claiming first prize with a combined score of 255. Sophomores Joshua Reeves and Landon Webb, and Freshman Tucker Corazzari all tied for 3rd place individually with a score of 85. Sophomore Ryan Carr placed 14th with a score of 96. Junior Tyler Sunahara placed 16th with a score of 97.

HS Cross Country News:

9/1 HS Cross Country at the Lotus Meteor Classic

Our boys ran a phenomenal race! As Junior Declan Casey would say, "it is a lot easier to run when you are not sick" as he was battling a cold last week. Declan placed 4th overall in the race with a time of 19:17.00. Sophomore Mitch Hixson placed 7th, breaking the 20-minute barrier with a time of 19:59.70. Freshman Nathan Kamman rounded out the top 10, placing 9th with a time of 21:11.00. Freshman Everett Johnson placed 16th with a time of 22:57.80. Freshman Logan Myers has worked his tail off all season long and was able to run/finish his first race as well!
