Animal Training Project Video Rubric

Students will demonstrate three trained behaviors using the Auditory and Non-Auditory commands, thus showing each behavior twice.

Students will demonstrate the trained behaviors and will produce a 10 minute video presentation to be shown to the class.

Content

Exceptional use of details and evidence: an excellent instructional video.

Main ideas are clear and well organized. Sufficient and appropriate details are included to teach the viewer about each aspect of the topic.

Content is evident but lacks sufficient detail or organization.

Content is lacking and details are not sufficient to inform the viewer

Animal Behaviors

The animal has mastered the three behaviors/commands trained by the handler without the use of treats or rewards.

The animal was able to perform three behaviors/commands trained by the handler but the animal required treats or rewards to complete.

The animal was able to perform one or two behaviors/commands trained by the handler but required excessive coaching.

The animal was not able to perform any behaviors or commands from the handler.

Structure

Organization and clarity of message is outstanding. Pacing and sequence engage the audience.

Video maintains focus and purpose throughout. Scenes are succinct, well sequenced and designed for content understanding. An introduction and conclusion help emphasize main ideas

Sequence of ideas is evident but focus strays from content message. May include extraneous or distracting content. Introduction and/or conclusion may be missing.

Video lacks organization and coherence. Content message is not clear or requires interpretation.

Use of Media

Use of media is unique and creative. Advanced video or media creation techniques may be evident.

At least five media elements are utilized (original or downloaded video, images, drawings, text, voiceover, music, transitions, effects, etc.) Media is relevant to content, effectively supports and enhances the main message.

Multiple media elements are included but video lacks variation. Some irrelevant material may be included which distracts from content message.

Video includes text, images and voice only (aka a Photostory)

Cinematic Technique

High quality editing and use of effects & features has produced a professional product.

Video is well paced, runs smoothly and shows evidence of careful editing. Audio and images set a clear tone for the piece. Audio levels and vocal clarity are consistent.

Video shows evidence of editing but includes some issues or “rough spots.” Audio may be inconsistent and variation is distracting.

Editing is rough and errors are distracting.

Credits

Information sources are credible, current and relevant. Media is Creative Commons or clearly Fair Use.

All media and information sources are included in credits, appropriately cited in MLA format

Media and information sources are incomplete or improperly cited (eg. URL only for media)

Citations are incomplete and insufficient.
