LEAGUE AFFILIATIONS

The club is currently affiliated to five local leagues:  CBHPBL, Cambridge and District, Bowls Cambridgeshire (County), Foxton Midweek and Meldreth and District.

CAMBRIDGE BUSINESS HOUSES PAIRS BOWLS LEAGUE (two pairs)

The league was started by friends who wanted a 'slightly different' league, at first open to business based bowls clubs but now open to all clubs, there are two sections to the league; Men and Open. The league has variations on the centre jack game, 18 ends are played and players can change places, within a rink, once in a match. Currently we don’t play in either section but we are affiliated so that we can enter the individual competitions, which we have entered in the past, with some success. One of our club members is the League Secretary and another is on the committee.

CAMBRIDGE AND DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE (four open triples)

C&D Bowls League plays, as far as we know, a unique form of the game; it is played with a 'roving' mat and 'roving' jack, there are no live woods and at the end of an end only bowls within 1 yard of the jack are counted (the C&D committee decided against decimalisation). Players within a rink are allowed to change position as often as desired. We have had a long association with this league, first joining in 1936, a second (ladies) team joined in 1981, currently we have one team playing in Division 2 (of 4). In addition to league matches we also enter club and individual competitions and have been fairly successful over the years. Several of our members have been league presidents, officers and committee members in the past; we currently have three club members on the committee in various capacities. In 2019, our Centenary year, Sally-Anne Purvis was the League President.

COUNTY LEAGUE (four open triples)

We have bowled in the County League in various leagues previously but re-joined the County open triples league in 2022, currently we bowl in Division 2. We also enter various individual competitions, our club members have enjoyed some success in these competitions and several of our lady members have been to Leamington to bowl in the national finals.

FOXTON MIDWEEK LEAGUE (three open triples)

This is an afternoon league and, as suggested by the league title, it is generally played on a Wednesday. We have been successful in this league several times since it started. This is a straightforward centre jack game with no variations! Hotly contested and thoroughly enjoyed by all participants.

MELDRETH AND DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE (four open triples)

This league is played, more or less, in accordance with Bowls England Rules, centre jack, live bowls etc but players are allowed to change positions within a rink. There are 2 divisions in this league, they are formed by a random draw at the AGM. We have 1 team playing and for 2025 will be in Section A.

All-in-all a very busy club schedule is put together, over a four month season, for our members’ enjoyment.
