OFFICIATING FOR MAVERICK SWIM CLUB
Maverick Swim Club is looking for volunteers interested in becoming entry-level officials. Becoming an official is a rewarding on-deck experience that benefits swimmers and is a wonderful way to help support our swim program. If you are interested in becoming an official, please review the information below and contact us with any questions. USA Swimming, Illinois Swimming, and Maverick Swim Club are non-profit organizations that depend upon volunteers to support swim meet operations.
BENEFITS OF BEING A MAVERICK OFFICIAL
- Fulfill family volunteer obligations.
- Note - all Maverick families are required to follow the published Maverick Worker Policy. This may mean that your family works as an official OR in a job offered through the job signup portal OR both. Please reach out if you have questions.
- Gain a more thorough understanding of swimming rules
- Reimbursement as a credit to your family swim account
- All registration, background check, and clinic fees are reimbursed in full by Maverick Swim Club.
- Receive a financial incentive for working at Maverick hosted meets (details below).
OFFICIATING:
To become a certified official, there are a few steps that must be completed. This process is necessary to ensure officials working on deck are qualified to make decisions to run a safe and successful meet.
Administrative Official or Stroke and Turn Judge
Both are entry level officiating positions. No experience required for either position.
- Administrative Official: Those that are comfortable working with computers and software programs and want to learn what is required to certify times and document a meet at the scoring table.
- Stroke & Turn Judge: Those that want to learn the technical stroke rules of swimming and apply those rules to judging swimmers in the water.
STEPS TO BECOME A CERTIFIED OFFICIAL
- Visit the Becoming An Official page on the Illinois Swimming website to familiarize yourself with the process.
- Contact us (Mavs Registrar/Admin) for assistance in the USA Swimming registration process.
- Register and attend an entry level Official’s Clinic administered by IL Swimming/USA Swimming per the IL Swimming website instructions.
- Complete on deck trainings with an experienced, certified officials
- Pass an open book on‐line rules test
- Other:
- Age: Minimum of 18 years
- Attire: Solid navy blue shorts, skirt or pants; white collared shirt and white shoes
MAVERICK INCENTIVE
Certified Maverick officials who work a minimum of 5 sessions at Maverick hosted meets will receive a credit at the end of the short course season. Credits are earned based on position as follows.
- Stroke & Turn Judge OR Administrative Official - $100
- Stroke & Turn Judge AND Administrative Official - $150
- Starter - $250
- Deck Referee - $300
- Deck Referee/Meet Referee - $500
- Must be MR for 4+ Maverick hosted meet sessions to qualify
