Internship Overview:

This internship is designed to give teens practical work experience while practicing leadership skills at SummerKids, our weekly theme-based day camp for youth in 1st through 6th grade. Teens will learn resume-building skills while being mentored by the SummerKids Team in a professional environment. Junior Counselors act as role models for younger campers, while still enjoying the fun traditions, songs and games of summer camp. This program lasts for three weeks in total: 1 week of training and a subsequent 2 full weeks (5 consecutive days each) of practicum to SummerKids (service weeks are flexible and chosen by the participant during training).

During the training week, Junior Counselors (JCs) will explore their leadership styles and discover their strengths. JCs will learn how to facilitate positive group dynamics as well as working in a team. Interns will also learn what it is to be a professional in the workplace. During the practicum weeks, interns will put what they have learned in training into practice as an assistant to a SummerKids group counselor. They will have daily check-ins with their supervisor, receive constructive feedback on their performance, and have an opportunity to process their challenges and share their successes with their supervisor and peers.

* Camp Fire teams up with Youth Career Connect (YCC) to help Junior Counselors receive employment coaching and high school credit for their summer internship.
