GETTING TO KNOW OUR VILLAGES. OUTLINE
OUTCOMES: 1- YOUTUBE-VIDEO (Village Commercial for Teenagers) |
Objectives
If you visit foreign countries you will always talk about the place you come from. This task will
- make you look at your village from an outside perspective to find out what is typical, special, and interesting about it,
- help you to build up vocabulary you need to talk and write about your village.
- teach you how to do research on regions and transform your knowledge into an attractive youtube video.
- give you the chance to learn more about the places you will visit during our exchange next year.
- prove yourself as a reliable and disciplined team worker by distributing tasks and contributing to your team’s product.
- enhance your creativity and imagination.
- be a good practice for analyzing, making and editing commercial videos.
Tasks
- Form national teams of five people. In this case the most handy solution is to team up with people who live close to each other.
- Watch the video by Amnesty International “Canada Road Trip: The Best Things To Do In Nova Scotia” (7 min) In each national team note down what you can do to make your video professional, interesting, attractive, and colorful. Focus on
- language (adjectives and phrases)
- shots, images, scenes
- content
- people
- Choose ONE of the following topics for your team’s part of the video, then do brainstorming as well as internet research on what you need to show in your video. (In the end your videos will be melted into one longer video about your village.)
- Location, geography/vegetation,
- population (also in regard to ethnic variety), means of transport
- architecture, tourist sights and attractions,
- customs (holidays, special festivities and ceremonies),
- traditional food,
- outdoor activities for teenagers
- Make a team concept: Your video should be a commercial showing teenagers how attractive your village is.
- Show the most important facts of your topic in an attractive variety of pictures and commercial-like use of language.
- Your video section should not be longer than two minutes, show.
- Everyone should have an idea which scenes and shots your video will contain, what these will look like in the end, and what is said about it.
- You can note down your final concept in a google document.
- Decide who does what by distributing the following five tasks. Of course each of you could have one main task and help with a second one.
- Script writers: Write the text for your video (Please give your text to your English teacher for correction before you film and record it!)
- Director and camera: Filming (Your are also the person who thinks about an attractive variant of shots)
- Editor: Editing (Watch out for music copyright!)
- Actors and actresses: Performing in the video
- Sound technician: Recording the audio track
- After finishing your video, please upload it to youtube and then to the twinspace (materials) and let the students in the other country enjoy it.
- Finally, use this worksheet while watching the others’ video to fill it with what you would like to highlight. Then use the page discussion in the Twinspace to comment on the others’ video.
