Department | Re-Assessment Procedures for Summative Category Grades (75%) |
Art | The Art Department utilizes a standards-based-style grade book that reviews a student’s body of evidence for each of five skills. Teachers check for growth on an on-going basis, and the five summative grades in the categories change as the semester progresses based on student growth. Students, with the help of teachers, monitor their summative grades and plan with their teacher to show evidence where needed. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a re-take/re-do process for summative assessments within 6-8 Spartan Plus sessions. These repair opportunities for summative assessments require additional learning or re-learning activities to be demonstrated. Certain assessments such as projects or essays may have the draft and/or revision process built in. Consult each course expectation document for details. |
Business | Students will have the opportunity to retake or redo assessments in the summative category. • The grade earned on the retake will replace the original summative grade. • Minimum requirements must be met before a student would be granted the opportunity to retake an assessment. These minimum requirements should indicate to the teacher that the student is ready to take the assessment a second time. They may include but are not limited to: additional formative activities, completion of previously incomplete assessments, attendance in Spartan Plus, in class interventions, out of class interventions or other requirements deemed appropriate by the instructor. • Remediation should take place within 6-8 Spartan Plus Sessions from the initial failed summative assessment. • In general, the opportunity for a retake/redo must be used before the next summative assessment. • If a student earns below a 60% on a summative assessment, that student will be required to complete a retake. If a student required to complete a retake refuses, the teacher will inform the parent, then the counselor, and then the Department Chair. • The assessment to be retaken/redone can be different than the original. |
Students must attend Spartan Plus to determine a plan of how to remediate skills from the original assessment. For essays, students will be given feedback and can revise the assessment and hand it back in within an appropriate timeframe determined by the instructor. Re-assessment should be completed 6-8 school days after the original assessment. | |

Math | Re-assessments must be completed before the next summative exam. Students must complete test corrections, attend Spartan Plus, and complete practice assignments. Students are eligible for a re-assessment only if they have no missing assignments for that unit. |

PE | Retakes must be completed by the end of the next unit. One retake attempt will be allowed for each summative. Remediation may be required before a retake is allowed. Summative make-ups/retakes must be completed during Spartan Plus OR as directed by the teacher. Summative work not completed by the due date may result in a permanent loss of points. |
Re-assessments must be completed within (8) SPARTAN PLUS CONTACT DAYS after receiving assessment results. To be eligible for a retake, students must have completed all assignments in the Formative Category from that unit. Students will work directly with the teacher to complete specific remediation activities to re-learn skills and demonstrate understanding, prior to completing a retake. (Ex: Meet with the teacher; Attend Spartan Plus; Complete homework/remediation; Complete Re-assessment). Students making progress may be provided extra time as needed. Re-assessments must be completed before the next summative exam. Students must use the Social Studies Summative Retake Policy sheet as well as attend a Spartan Plus period to relearn the missed skills. | |
World Languages/ELL | Any summative assessment may be retaken, regardless of the initial grade. To be eligible for a retake, students must have completed all assignments from that unit and fill out a retake reflection form. Students need to complete their retake prior to the following summative exam. The most recent grade shall prevail. |
Late Work Procedures for Formative Category Grades (25%) Students will be provided multiple opportunities to practice course standards independently through homework or other class work. Work will be accepted with no penalty within two school days of the established deadline. | |
