BUSINESS OVERVIEW

What We Do

Robyn Robot is an AI-powered teaching assistant system that helps teachers provide personalized support to every student in their classroom. The system captures the teacher's lesson - both what they say and what they write on the board - and uses this context to answer student questions throughout the lesson.

The Problem We're Solving

In every lesson, there are more questions to be asked than can be fielded promptly by a single teacher. Some questions will go unanswered. Others might be answered, but only after the student has waited for the teacher's attention. While a teacher or teaching assistant is supporting one student, others wait with their hands up, losing learning time and momentum. This is particularly acute for students with additional needs; those who find it difficult to ask for help in front of peers; or those who simply work at a different pace (faster or slower than their peers).

Our Solution

Robyn Robot acts as an extension of the teacher. A device near the board listens to the teacher and watches what's written on the whiteboard. Student devices around the room allow pupils to ask questions - by voice, text, or by showing their work. They receive answers based on what the teacher has just taught, using the teacher's methods and terminology.

Importantly, Robyn doesn't just give answers. It provides hints, reminds students of what was on the board, suggests approaches, and gives feedback on their work - encouraging students to think rather than copying solutions.

Target Market

Industry Context

The education technology market has seen significant investment in AI for lesson planning (slides, quizzes), or generic AI assistance that doesn’t have any realtime context about the lesson.

Robyn Robot occupies a unique position: AI that works with the teacher's pedagogy, in real-time during lessons, requiring minimal teacher intervention once set up.

THE TEAM

Founder & CEO: Bruce Greig

Why I am doing this

I have been a school governor for 15 years.  I have three children. My wife is a teaching assistant. Her name is Robyn. I worked for several years as a Special Educational Needs mediator, helping families of SEN children access the right support. I have seen lots of situations where teachers can't get to everyone in the class. Some questions go answered, or can only be answered after the child has had to wait for a while. One of my own children (now aged 19) has said that they would literally never put their hand up in class to ask a question. They would just sit quietly and hope to muddle through. Robyn Robot helps children like that, and for every child it allows many more questions to be asked than could be asked if there was just one teacher in the class.

Because Robyn's answers are based on what the teacher themselves has said, it allows the teacher to extend their reach to everyone in the class, almost as if they were at every child's side all the time. Indeed, that's exactly how one child described it to me: "It is like having three more teachers in the class".

When I browse through questions and answers to monitor accuracy and performance, I often see sequences of questions and answers which have obviously helped a child enormously. I don't know which child has asked those questions. I don't know anything about them. But I know that someone somewhere has made a little more progress in their lesson than they would have done without my tech.

I was in a class last term where Robyn gave a Ukrainian child an explanation of something in fluent Ukrainian, the first time she had heard anyone speak Ukrainian in her school. (Robyn will generally only use English, but can be persuaded to translate things if you ask firmly and politely).

There was a blind child in a class one time. He cannot see the board. But Robyn can tell him what is on the board.
