ELA: Read “What Makes the Seasons?”

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnKUlirirc2693k_upkkg

Talk about the four seasons.

-What is the weather in each season?

-What activities can we do during each season?

-What clothing do we wear?

-Pick a season and pretend!  Dress up in seasonal clothing.  Pretend to have a snowball fight/picnic/or jump in the leaves.

Math

Make a weather graph for the week.

How many days were sunny?  How many days were rainy?  Why didn’t it snow?

Make a sunshine pattern.  Copy or extend the pattern of the sun’s rays.

Roll a dice and cover the number on the rain drops to practice numbers 1-6!

·Windy Weather Catch

Blow a light object (scarf, tissue, etc) into the air with a blow drier and then have your children catch them.

-Which objects were easiest to keep in the air?  Discuss which were light and heavy.

·Blowing Water Races

Put a piece of wax paper on your table (tape it down) Then put a couple of drops of water on the paper (add food coloring to make it colorful)! Let your children use straws to blow the water around the paper. You can also make a start and finish line and have your children have water blowing races.  Was it fastest to go in a straight line from start to finish?  Did you go faster if you blow harder or softer?

This is an interactive game for children to help the animals get dressed for the season.  The earth changes as the season changes.  Our clothing changes are a concrete way to help children understand (and notice) seasonal changes.
