THE SCOTTISH FIELD ARCHERY ASSOCIATION

BOWHUNTER CHAMPIONSHIP PROTOCOL

Title

The competition shall be known as The Scottish Bowhunter Championships (here-in after referred to as SBHC).

Status of Competition

This is not an IFAA sanctioned event but it is a National Championship of the SFAA which will include an Open Category.

Administration

It is accepted that from time-to-time administrative matters in respect of the SBHC will require to be addressed and these issues will be dealt with by the SFAA Board, at such times and intervals as it feels necessary to promote the continued success of the competition. It is envisaged that many matters can be dealt with by electronic means.  

Championship Details 

Format:          This is a two-day tournament with two 14 target unit rounds being shot each day

 

Day 1 

Unit 1 - 14 target IFAA Paper Animal Round Marked  

Unit 2 - 14 target IFAA 3D Standard 2 Arrow Round

The shooting groups will consist of “mixed groups within shooting styles”          

Day 2

Unit 3 - 14 target IFAA Paper Animal Round Marked  

Unit 4 – 14 target IFAA 3D Standard 2 Arrow Round

The shooting groups will, as far as practical, be on a “head-to-head” basis.

The Rules for these rounds can be found on Pages: 51-54 (IFAA Paper Animal Round

Marked) and pages 56-58 (IFAA Hunting Round) of the latest edition of the IFAA Book of Rules.

It should be held in May each year.

The venue is not set. And should be rotated through Clubs able to host.

                                                                 

The SFAA shall accept entries from all Divisions, as set out within the IFAA Book of Rules subject to any SFAA limitations. Only those styles set out in the IFAA Book of Rules shall be recognised by the SBHC.

Entry is open to all SFAA members and to individuals who are not members of the SFAA, however these individuals must be members of one of the recognized National Archery Governing Body’s (NGB) and will be accepted into the competition at the discretion of the SFAA. All entrants of non-SFAA Clubs[1] shall compete in the Open Competition.

As this is a non IFAA sanctioned event the professional divisions are not included and professional archers may shoot in their equivalent divisions or in any other Amateur division

Target Allocation Groups

Adults:

Groups shall consist of no less than 3 and up to 6 adult archers.

Juniors:

Groups shall consist of no less than 3 and up to 6 junior archers. Juniors may be mixed in with adults. 

Cubs:

Cubs will be supervised by parents and allocated to a suitable group to provide balanced and pragmatic shooting for all in the group.

Target Faces

Recognized IFAA Faces are to be used. Any manufacturer.

Entry Standard

 

All archers entering the competition must be full or associate members of the national association on whose behalf they are entering, it shall be the responsibility of the Event Administrators to confirm that the entrant is a member of their respective association and is in good standing with them and the SFAA. All archers MUST present proof in the form of their membership/classification card issued by their association. Archers failing to produce documentary proof of membership/classification at the registration of the event WILL BE REFUSED ENTRY to the competition.

In the case of any guest shooters granted admission to the competition the same conditions shall apply.

Conditions of Entry

Entry shall be by submission of the on-line entry form which will be available via the SFAA webpage, it should be completed and submitted along with payment of the necessary entry fee by electronic bank transfer to the account details provided on the entry form. Entry forms submitted without payment will be treated as pending and shall be put on a waiting list until such time as payment has been verified.

Entry details submitted will be confirmed with each entrant via the email address/telephone number they provide and any subsequent change to those confirmed details shall be treated as a new application to enter the competition, such application shall include a further entry fee and depending on the number of entrants at the time of resubmission of said entry form may mean that application being put on any waiting list that may open at the time of that resubmission.

Entrants may withdraw from the competition at any time up to and including the closing date of the competition (see below). Refunds will be as per the booking conditions on the SFAA ticket “Terms & Conditions.”  

Competition Entry Closing Date

The closing time and date for the competition shall be 5 pm of the Thursday preceding the weekend of the competition. This does not preclude the right of the Event Administrators to announce acceptance of entries after this date subject to any conditions that they may wish to set.  

                               

Competition Awards

Competition awards shall be dependent on entry and shall be as follows:

Limit scores have been created and will be used in this tournament and awards shall be dependent on entry and shall be as follows:

In cub and junior divisions, the title Scottish Champion and Champion patch shall be awarded in every division and style entered, regardless of number of entrants silver and bronze shall also be awarded. Any scores from these divisions will be added to the Limit Tables.  

In all the adult divisions there shall be an Open Championship and a Scottish Championship. The Open Championship shall be open to both SFAA and non SFAA archers. The Scottish Championship shall be open to SFAA members only. Medals shall be awarded according to the following criteria:

Where there is only one archer in a division and that archer is an SFAA member then that archer, subject to beating the threshold score, shall be declared Scottish and Open Champion and be awarded a gold medal and Champion patch.

If the archer is a non SFAA member, that archer shall be declared Open winner and be awarded a gold medal.

Where there are up to three archers in a division, gold and silver medals shall be awarded. Where the highest scoring archer in that division is an SFAA member they shall be declared Scottish and Open Champion and be awarded a gold medal and Champion patch. Where the winning archer is a non SFAA member they shall be declared the Open winner and awarded a gold medal, the next/highest placed SFAA member shall be declared Scottish Champion and be awarded a gold medal and Champion patch and the next placed archer shall be awarded silver.

Where there are up to five archers in a division the forgoing shall apply but medals shall be awarded up to bronze.

Non SFAA archers shall be eligible to receive silver and bronze medals.

For the purpose of establishing the number of archers in any division both non SFAA and SFAA members will be counted.

There are no separate prizes/competition for B & C Classification

In the event of a draw a tie breaker will be held, this will take the format of:

SBHC Shooting Records

The SBHC has not yet been recognized as having a “Record Status” due to the lack of an established round. Records can be claimed for the 14 marked paper round only and records can be shot on both days.  

Protest Committee

A Protest Committee will consider and rule on all disputes and protests submitted at the tournament.

Protests must be submitted in writing, along with the appropriate fee[2] as decided by the host, no later than one-hour after completion of that day's shooting. All particulars of the protest, including witnesses to the incident, must be contained within the written submission, only the evidence in the written submission shall be considered. If the subject of the protest is an individual then that individual must be informed that a protest has been submitted in   respect of them.

The Protest Committee shall only consider protests in relation to the Rules of Shooting. All other matters will be referred to the tournament host.

The Protest Committee shall hear all evidence submitted, eye witness, verbal or written, including any defense to the protest and shall make a decision based on the evidence and in the interest of natural justice. The outcome of their deliberations shall be given in writing.

In the case where the protest is upheld by the Protest Committee, they shall have the power to make such judgements as they feel would adequately resolve the protest up to and including expulsion from the competition.

Where the protest is upheld the protest fee shall be returned to the individual making the protest, if the protest is not upheld the fee shall be forfeit and shall go to the SFAA to cover administrative costs.

No person may submit a protest on behalf of another person.

No cub may submit a protest.

Protest Committee Structure 

The Protest Committee shall be made up of 5 persons, where possible the committee shall be made up of one member from differing clubs, who are members of the SFAA and represented at the competition. The individual making the protest, any witnesses and the individual who is the subject of the protest are excluded from membership of the protest committee.

SBHC Funding

The SBHC Competition shall be self-funding. It shall therefore be the responsibility of the SFAA to finance the cost of the event from their own funds and/or from funds received by donation or from sponsorship. Any sponsorship agreements entered into by the SFAA must be on the basis of their hosting that tournament. Any sponsorship proposals relating to the name of the tournament, eternal trophies, and/or other fabric of the SBHC shall be agreed in advance by the SFAA Committee. A hosting fee of £300 plus a share of the entry fee following deduction of expenses is usually paid to the hosting club to affray costs.
