What if I am unhappy with my mark or I do not understand the feedback?

The University does not allow the challenge of academic judgement.   All work undergoes a robust marking and moderation procedure to ensure marks are fair and feedback is appropriate.

The feedback should tell you how you can improve your work,  and you should read your feedback and review your work with a critical eye, and if you still do not understand the feedback you should contact the module convenor.   Marks will not be adjusted nor debated.

There are only three grounds that a mark can be appealed.

i.    if proper process has not been followed.

ii.   if there are extenuating circumstances that you have not previously made us aware of  (these would require evidence,  and an explanation why we were not informed sooner).

iii.   failure of supervision  (this is a serious accusation and would require evidence,  and an investigation would then occur).

Students who meet the criteria for grounds for an appeal,   should appeal informally in the first instance to the Head of Department.

If there is then dissatisfaction with the decision of the Head of Department,  students should follow the formal academic appeals  and complaints route - here:  https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/study/policies/appeals-complaints-current-students
