MINUTES OF MEETING

 JOSLIN MEMORIAL LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

                                            JANUARY 13, 2021 5:30

                                                    Via Zoom

 

PRESENT:  Jean Joslin, David Babic, Trish Read, Sally Reisner, Carol Hosford, Jason Butler, Anna Church

 

ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS:  Add bylaws

                                                                  Delete Friends’ Report

APPROVE MINUTES:

                Trish moved to approve the minutes of the November and December meetings.  Sally seconded.  All approved.

 

BYLAWS:  Review of old bylaws and changes

                The fiscal year date was changed to July 1-June 30.

                The Board discussed the article limiting Board member term limits to 3 terms.  The Board decided to strike this passage.

                Art. 5 was revised to say “The chair will direct meetings.  Other trustees will take on necessary responsibilities by consensus.

 

                JASON will send the revised bylaws to Board members.  The Board will approve or amend these at the next meeting.

 

CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:

                Anna has been collaborating with Amanda in Warren on a monthly book club series for middle school students.  They have discussed continuing this effort.

 

LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

 

                Jason reported that circulation numbers for adult materials are up; numbers for YA and children’s materials are way up.

                Six volunteers are coming in to help with re-shelving and other appropriate tasks.

 

STAFF GOALS:

                Jason and Anna have both turned in their goals for the coming year.  CAROL will forward these to the rest of the Board.

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

                We are transitioning bookkeeping services to a new bookkeeper, Sarah Stavraky.  End of year bookkeeping and taxes  for this year are being prepared by our current bookkeeper.

                The elevator will be inspected by the elevator company and then by the State.

                Jean has been working with Joshua Schwartz for our 2020 Certified Local Government grant to repair and upgrade our sconce lamps.

                Sally Reisner has submitted her petition to run for another term.

                Our annual appeal letter was very successful.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

                We need to true up where moneys are being put in various reports.  There has been some mis-filing.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

                Our budget revolves around town support from Fayston and Waitsfield, with 2/3 of the figure coming from Waitsfield.  This is based on library patron usage percentages.

                The budget will go up 2% for each town.

                There’s still money in the budget for collection and technology needs.  This should be spent by June 30th.

 

                Trish moved and Sally seconded to approve the proposed

budget.

 

 

At 7:05 Sally offered a motion to adjourn; David seconded.  The motion was passed unanimously.

           

The next regular meeting will take place Wednesday, March 10th at 5:30 at the library or via Zoom, as appropriate.
