Internship Opportunities with the Office of Health and Wellness Promotion (HAWP)

The Office of Health and Wellness Promotion (HAWP) at Brandeis University coordinates wellness promotion efforts across campus and provides strategic direction for health promotion and prevention on campus. HAWP's mission is to support student health and wellness through evidence-based promotion and prevention, including harm reduction, environmental strategies, health communication, peer education, and more.
HAWP is offering two internships for the fall 2022 semester. Both the Health Communication Intern and the Social Media Intern will:
- Educate the campus community about various health and wellness topics, including mental health, sleep, alcohol & other drugs, COVID-19, etc.
- Promote HAWP resources & programs
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Gain valuable experience in the fields of public health and health communication
Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity or experience in public health and health communication
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong written communication skills
- Familiarity with graphic design and video production software, such as Canva, iMovie, etc.
Commitment & Compensation
- This internship is unpaid, however students may be able to earn academic credit.
- 110 total hours throughout the Spring 2022 semester for HSSP majors completing their Hands On Experience (HOE)
- 40-60 hour options available for students not earning class credit
- Interns may work in person and/or remotely
Health Communication Internship
The Health Communication Intern uses their writing, editing, and design skills to communicate important health information to the Brandeis community. Specifically, the Health Communication Intern will:
- Draft the monthly Health and Wellness Newsletter (distributed to the entire Bradeis student body) by creating written and graphic content, liaising with other campus departments and student organizations, and tracking analytics
- Manage the Mindful Monday initiative, including management of the mailing list and weekly email
- Assist with creation of educational resource materials such as pamphlets, flyers, online courses, etc.
- Maintain the HAWP website utilizing Brandeis’ content management system (CMS)
- Assist with other HAWP programs and projects as needed
Social Media Internship
The Social Media Intern uses their creativity and social media savvy to bring health education to students in a fun and engaging way. The @BrandeisWellness Social Media Intern will:
- Use awareness of current technology and cultural trends to create engaging content for HAWP social media accounts (Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube, Facebook), including written, graphic, and audio/video content
- Track analytics and increase followers and community engagement on Instagram and TikTok
- Utilize social media calendar and scheduling app to plan, organize, and manage multiple social media accounts and campaigns
- Assist with other HAWP programs and projects as needed
