From the Headteacher:
The end of term is fast approaching now and we are in full Christmas swing. The year 2 and 3 children performed their Nativity for the school this morning with beautiful singing and all their lines learned. The choir performed to the residents of The Meadows and it was a wonderful event with lots of residents watching and singing along; they thoroughly appreciated our children being there, and they in turn, did us proud. On Saturday, ten members of the choir sang at the lights ceremony at St Andrew’s church (Hagbourne) to a large audience and again, we were very proud of them and so thankful that they gave up part of their weekend to join us.
A reminder that Monday 16th December is our Carol Service in St. Andrew’s Church starting at 6pm and you are all warmly invited. Please be aware that this was advertised with the incorrect date in the Parish Magazine and the Tree Festival program. We ask that all children attend with an adult and that you sit together in the pews. There will be songs from reception, year 1, year 2, year 3 and choir and their will be readings by years 4,5, and 6. It is a lovely event and if you have not attended before we would encourage you to do so. Please ensure children are in their school uniforms.
Thank you to ‘The old farm shop’ who provided us with a beautiful Christmas tree for the school hall. We very much appreciate your kindness and generosity.
Eco Christmas decoration competition:
Thank you to everyone who entered the Eco Christmas decoration competition, we had some absolutely amazing entries. Congratulations to Joshua (year 1), Jamie (year 3) and Alex (year 6) who were the overall winners for their age groups. If your child entered, please come and collect their decorations any time after school next Monday-Wednesday (16th-18th). I’ve provided some photos below so you can admire them as much as we have been. Aren’t they amazing?
Dolce ‘snowman’ competition:
Well done to all children who entered the ‘snowman’ competition which Dolce organised. Congratulations to Alex (year 6) and Bethany (year 2) whose pictures were sent off to Dolce for the final round. Also congratulations to Anna B (year 6), Joshua (year 5) and Jamie (year 4) who were runners up. Here are the 5 winning snowman pictures:
Attendance monitoring has just been undertaken as it has to be reported to governors. The schools overall attendance is 97.42% which is above National. We do appreciate that at this time of year there are lots of bugs going around and we really wouldn’t want you to send your child to school if they have a temperature or have been sick. However, if you aren’t sure or they just have a cold, then I would suggest you send them to school and we can keep an eye on them for you and give you a call if they start to become unwell during the day.
If your child’s attendance is below 90%, this means they will have already missed 6 days or more of school since the beginning of the Autumn term which is roughly one day a fortnight: this will affect their school work as they may have missed subjects which may not be taught again this year and therefore gaps start to develop in their learning. If you would like to discuss this or you need some support then please make an appointment with the office.
We are still looking for minibus drivers, please see below:
Are there any willing parents out there who have time on their hands and would be happy to take a minibus driving test? Although several of the TAs can drive the minibuses, we aren’t always able to take them from classes. If we had a couple of parent drivers who would be willing to go on school trips that would be an amazing help to all of us. If you are interested, please let Sammy know and we can arrange this for you. It will not involve you paying for anything as school will cover the costs.
May we take this opportunity to thank you for all your support this term and we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and happy new year.
We raised £510.00 of free books from this year's book fair, thank you to everyone for your support.
