Bereavement Café

Jill Stuchfield

This is a new venture for St John’s. We have decided to open the Church Shop on the third Wednesday afternoon of every month to provide a place for those who have been bereaved to come and share their experiences and hopefully receive Christian support and comfort. We came to the decision to do this after considerable prayer and thought. Bereavement is something we will all face in one-way or another (not just necessarily through death). It seems a good way to reach out to our local community.

We have been trained by Care for the Family and although at the time of writing we haven’t yet started; the focus is very much on listening to people and giving them the opportunity to talk to others facing similar needs.

We will be open to anyone who has faced bereavement (of any kind) whether recent or in the last few years. We will offer tea, cake, fellowship and support. We’re hoping that this will also reach members of the community who have little or no contact with church.
