Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting

Good morning Parents/Guardian/CSPC members:

Amendments to Regulation 304 outline requirements for school boards to offer greater transparency for parents and families. Starting in the 2023-24 school year, school boards are required to post a detailed summary of PA Day activities. At least 14 days in advance of each PA Day, the detailed summary must be posted in a prominent location on the board’s public website or that of the participating school(s) and submitted to the ministry as part of the existing OSYC submission process.

This PA Day is focused on:

  • Staff will split into two groups:
  • K to Gr 3 Teachers, Designated Early Childhood Education, Library Technicians and other staff will attend a session on Assessment of Reading.  The TCDSB document Early Literacy Formative Assessments will be introduced. This session will be led by Central Early Reading Lead Teachers and Facilitators through a video conference.

  • Gr 4 to Gr 8 Teachers will participate in a presentation and discuss changes to the Literacy curriculum with specific focus on the Language Conventions for Reading and Writing continuum (Appendix B).

PA DAY November 17, 2023 Parent/Guardian-Teacher Meetings

Regular and on-going communication is key to supporting your child’s growth.

Discussions will include the student’s progress, what is being taught in class and how parent(s)/guardian(s) can support their child’s learning and ways to differentiate instructional practices.

A communication will be sent home to parents/guardians with details of how to arrange a meeting.

These meetings will be planned twice a year, November and February,  between the teacher and parent/guardian and may include the child.  

Parents will be informed of the time of their meeting, once it is scheduled.

Session 2

School Improvement and Equity Planning (SIEP) - Part 1

  • Review SIEP goals with the entire staff
  • Brief overview of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

The aim of UDL, is to provide access to the curriculum for all students, and to assist educators in designing products and environments to make them accessible to everyone, regardless of age, skills, or situation. (Learning for All, Kindergarten to Grade 12)

Early Reading

Teachers split into two groups:

  • K-3 teachers:
  • focus on Early Reading
  • will work through a presentation, videos and activities that can be implemented in the classroom.

  • Gr 4 -8 teachers:
  • focus on the new Language Curriculum Gr 1 - 8
  • will work through a presentation and discussions highlighting what’s the same and what’s new

Session 4

SIEP Part 2 - Supporting Student Needs

  • In small groups teachers will identify focus students who will benefit from additional interventions and strategies to support them (applies to any student with or without an IEP)
  • Addressing the question:
  • How will UDL inform instructional strategies used?

  • Focus on high impact instructional strategies through the lens of the 2020 math curriculum.
  • Staff will choose their focus by engaging through the use of a Choice board and share their learning with the larger group.
