NWLCT Conservation Priorities

1. NWLCT is only considering accepting new conservation easements in the following Oregon counties at this time: Lane, Douglas, Marion, Linn, and Polk.

2. We will use the ODFW Priority Wildlife Connectivity Area map (link) to prioritize properties which provide habitat corridors or stepping stones for wildlife movement in larger landscapes.

3. We will use the Willamette Valley Oak and Prairie Cooperative Strategic Action Plan map (link) to prioritize properties in Core Conservation Areas.

4. We will prioritize properties which are close to existing protected areas (our easements, other easements, protected public lands) so that a larger protected area will be created.

5. We will prioritize properties which contain sensitive, rare, or endangered plants or animals.

6. We will prioritize properties with the most imminent threats from development, mining, or other potentially destructive land uses.  

7. We will assess the quality of the habitat on the property.  Properties with less coverage by invasive species and those where habitat restoration has been done or is being planned will get priority.

8. We will collaborate with other land trusts to understand their priorities and selection criteria and let them know ours for mutual benefit.
