Here is the guidelines and process for placing Spring / Summer work order requests.


Please take accurate attendance as it helps us to track and follow up with students who are having issues. If there is an issue with a student coming to class on time please email the parents and loop in the counselors or one of the administrators.


Inclusive Practices Update: Thank you so much for filling out the Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Support survey and noting interest in being a part of the core team! We have 50% of surveys in so far and interest at each level for the core team.  

Please complete the survey (link here) by April 17th so that we have time review the results the following week in core teams.

Inclusive Practices Updates: 

Leadership Opportunity! As a part of our planning for inclusive practices at AES we are launching core teams at each school level to help us plan for social, emotional, and behavioral supports for students. There will be one team per school level with 6-8 staff who represent different roles. This team will meet for the first time during the week of April 22nd and will meet an additional 2-3 times before the end of the year. Teammates will be asked if they can continue on the team for the first semester next year as we continue to draft our long term vision for this programming.  Please note your interest in joining this core team by Friday March 29th via this link.


Here’s What We Know:

MAP testing: Heads up that MAP testing is happening the week of April 22nd. This is also Earth Day activities. We are preparing the special schedule and will get that out soon. MAP testing schedule will remain the same. Testing in the morning, shortened classes and advisory in the afternoon on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of that week. Wednesday and Friday will be make-up days. We will go over MAP testing at our next MS faculty meeting April 17th.

PowerSchool I am hoping to attend your next department meeting to help set up the grading categories for the second semester.

Ask your colleagues:

Ask Grade 7 Humanities teachers about Actively Learn. It’s an online literacy program that they are connecting to their Grey Project.

Ask Courtney about dress forms. Her Project Runway students are making dress models as they start designing clothes. She found the instructions on How to cast. A great resource!

Ask our ELD teachers about online WIDA testing. In the next couple of weeks, all of our ELD students will be doing some online assessment and using the WIDA app on their iPad.

Ask Linda about . The MS has a subscription for each Middle School student. Stay tuned for some Professional Development around how best to use this resource. In the meantime, email me if you are interested in an account!

Ask Kyle about the new HS laser cutter! If you have a design project in mind, let us know and we can help facilitate it!

After School Activities Season 4

Database Trial We have access to APA PsycNET through April 24 (on campus access only). APA PsycNET provides access to the American Psychological Association publications, and we're trying to determine if we need to subscribe for IB Psych. If there's a study you've been hoping to read, now is your chance.  If you find access to this database useful, please let me know.

Author visit survey - If you haven’t yet, please complete this short survey on George O’Connor’s visit.

Video Streaming Service - The library is considering a contract with Kanopy, a video-streaming service that allows up to 3 free viewings of any film before the account is charged for it. Please take a look at their collection and see if you think this would be useful for your teaching.

Old Magazines - Please let us know anytime throughout the year if you need magazines in your classroom for their content, to make collages, to study language, etc. We have a wide selection of back issues that we can send your way.


SST Process

Thank you again for your time providing feedback via the SST process survey! We will continue to review and reflect on the data - quantitative and qualitative, and once more pieces of the Student Support Manual are clarified and finalized these will be shared out with the MS faculty and staff. So to recap a small change, starting this week we will call the meetings on Tuesdays at lunch Child Study Team (CST) meetings, while the Student Support Team (SST) meets weekly before school on Thursdays.

Please note that Karin will be out this week Wednesday-Friday on account of PD related to SST systems, processes, and documentation. I will be checking my work Email. Please direct any time-sensitive student counseling concerns to Jonathan.


A reminder to please write a hall pass in advance if you plan to meet with a student during lunch break. A Sticky Note is fine, although we can give you some pass forms from the office. Just ask Rekha. It helps our dedicated TA team to know whether or not students have permission to enter the hallway/staircase during the lunch break. Also, if students need a lunch-line pass, please let us know in the office in advance so we can prepare the pass for them in the morning. Again, this supports our TA team when they supervise the cafeteria when working with our students.

Service Day last week was a huge success, again thanks for everyone's involvement. We are heading into the last few weeks of the year. It’s both exciting and busy. It’s the time of year when we start looking forward to the next school year.

Each year we make changes and evolve, this year is no different. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing out some of our evolutions for SY 2019/20. Today, I am sharing the leadership position descriptions for SY2019/20:

These are important roles in the Middle School. As I mentioned on Wednesday these roles are intended to be learning focused and student centered. While each leadership position has a focus on a department or grade level there is also a MS and SW focus. An example of some work this year has been providing feedback to the grading task force that was set up after Lee Ann Jung’s visit (this work will be shared with faculty at a future faculty meeting for further feedback).

The MS will also move to a two year appointment for leadership positions. This allows everyone who is interested to develop their leadership skills and contribute in a different way to the MS. It is also possible for people in current positions that are advertised to reapply. The Updated Position Descriptions will be reviewed next year to be sure that they reflect the key aspects of the different roles and the needs of the school. I’m happy to clarify any questions you might have.
