Activity A:

Spread some shaving cream on the table and then practice writing your numbers 0-30 in the shaving cream.

(Alternatives to shaving cream: snow, sand, sugar, salt, etc. Be creative! :)

Record the numbers you practice on the paper provided.  Then practice counting aloud to 100.

Activity B:

Using a pencil, crayon, marker, highlighter, or writing utensil of your choice, write numbers 0-30 on the paper provided.

Practice counting to 100.

Activity A:

Parents: Read “Stuck in the Snow” passage aloud,  and have your child answer the comprehension questions.

Activity B:

Work on reading skills on Starfall.com or ABC Mouse for 30 minutes. Read a book for 15 minutes. Discuss your favorite part or something you learned.

Activity A:

Write a true story about a time you were stuck in the snow. Write at least two sentences and draw a picture to go with your story.

Activity B:

Write a make believe story about a time you were stuck in the snow. Write at least two sentences and draw a picture to go with your story.

Activity A:  Science-

Look for items around your house and decide which force you would move them with (push or pull).  Draw a picture of 3 items you can push.  Draw another picture of 3 items you can pull.  Explain orally the difference between a push and a pull.

Activity B:  Science-

Explore the website National Geographic Creature Feature.

Draw a picture on the blank paper provided of an animal you see there eating the food it needs to survive.

Activity A: Fill a spray bottle with warm water and mix a packet of kool-aid. Draw a picture on the snow!! (Optional: Take a picture of your picture and share with your teacher!)

Activity B: If there is snow on the ground and you are able to go outside, try to make these forms with snow: square, rectangle, triangle, and sphere (ball).

Activity C: Choose one of the step-by-step drawing instructions included in your packet. Complete the drawing on the sheet of unlined paper included. Color your drawing.

Activity A:

Build a fort using materials from your home. Decide what shapes will help you build the strongest fort. Draw and label the different shapes in your fort.

 

Activity B:

Using the recording sheet, find 2-D shapes around your house; record the shapes you found by drawing a picture, listing where you found the shape, and how many sides it has.

Activity A:

Parents: Read aloud “Building Things with Snow” passage and have your child answer the comprehension questions.

Activity B:

Read a book for 15 mins.  Complete the sheet for beginning, middle and end of your story and draw a picture of each.  

Activity A:

Write the steps to tell how to build a snowman and draw a picture on the back.

Activity B:

Write at least two sentences about what you did today. Make sure to include a picture to match.

Activity A: Science-

Go for a quick walk outside.  Talk about what kind of animals you might  see in the winter.  Ask if there are more animals out in the summer or in the winter.  Why? Draw a picture of one animal you see and write a sentence about how it survives winter.  

Activity B:  Science--

Find foods and tell your family members what food groups they belong to. Draw a picture of foods from the different food groups.

Activity A: With a parent’s help, join the Quaver Street classroom by creating an account at www.QuaverMusic.com and entering the appropriate Class Code:

Once on Quaver Street, click the doorway that says “Kids Enter Here.”  Click “SongBrush” at the bottom right corner, and create three compositions.  Save them using the “File” menu at the bottom of the screen.

Activity B: Using your best singing voice, sing “Snail, Snail”, “Frog in the Meadow”, and “Engine, Engine # 9” to a family member, pet, or stuffed animal.  Then, sing again while tapping the steady beat.  Finally, sing all three songs while clapping the rhythm of the words.  Explain to your audience how the steady beat and rhythm of the words are different.

Count the numbers of steps it takes to get from the bedroom to the kitchen, front door, and other parts of your house. Record the numbers of steps for each on the Day 3 Activity A recording sheets and answer the questions.

Activity B:

Using the snowflake ruler, measure items on the Day 3 Activity B sheet and record your answers.

Choose 3 things in your home to measure using the snowflake ruler. Draw the items on the back and label your measurements.

Activity A:

Parents: Read aloud “Winter Weather” passage and have your child answer the comprehension questions.

Activity B:

Work on reading skills on Starfall.com or ABC Mouse for 30 minutes.

Then read a book for 15 minutes.   Discuss your favorite part or something you learned.

Activity A:

Look outside your window and think about what you see. Write at least 2 sentences about what you see. Draw a picture to go with it.

Activity B:

Write at least 2 sentences about who is in your family.  Draw a detailed picture of you and your family.

Activity A:  Social Studies- Draw a map of your house with all its rooms. Show on your map how you would escape if there is a fire at your house.

Activity B:  Social Studies- Choose a community helper.  Draw a picture of your community helper and write about how they help our community.  

Activity A: Read a fiction book aloud to a stuffed animal, a sibling, or a pet. Draw a favorite scene or something you learned.

Activity B: Read a non-fiction book.  Write one fact that you learned and illustrate it.

Activity A:

With help from an adult, read the 3D shape poem several times. Discuss attributes of 3D shapes. Find ten 3D shapes in your home; draw and label them on the back of the poem page. Color the objects accordingly.

Activity B:

3D Shape Sort Part 1;

3D Shape Sort Part 2:

Cut out the objects on both sheets and sort them into their corresponding category. Color the shapes using appropriate colors for that object (Ex- ice cream cones are brown.)

Activity A:

Parents: Read aloud “Sledding” passage and have child answer comprehension questions.

Activity B:

Read a book for 15 mins.  Complete the 2 sheets about the characters and setting.  Draw a picture.

Activity A:

Read these words from the  Sledding story: hill, snow, cold, go, and sled. Use the blank paper provided.  Write your own sentence for each of the words above.  

Activity B:

Think of an animal that you see near your house.  Use the blank paper provided. Write at least 2 sentences about what this animal needs to do to survive in winter. On the back, draw a picture to go with your writing.

Activity A:  Science-

Think of an animal that is a neutral color (brown, black, or gray). Draw a picture of the animal in its habitat.

Activity B:  Science-

Build a fort out of items in your house.  Talk about the structure and what makes the foundation sturdy.  Draw a picture of your fort.

Activity A: If there is someone at home to play with challenge them to a game of Fit-Tac-Toe. If no one is available, play alone by filling each box with an X.

Activity B:  On the blank paper provided, draw and color a picture of everything you eat on a plate.  Circle the foods that are nutritious.

Activity B:

Color the Sum Batman Sheet

Work out the sums and color the appropriate spaces based on sums. Use the color key.

Activity A:

Parents:  Read aloud “Snowflakes” passage and have child answer comprehension questions.

Activity B:

Work on reading skills on Starfall.com or ABC Mouse for 30 minutes. Read a book for 15 minutes and discuss your favorite part or something new you learned.

Activity A:

Play a board game with your family. Write about your experience.  For example, what did you play? Who won?  What was your reaction?

Activity B:

Make a snowflake using the template  or on your own.  Write about the shapes you see when you look at your snowflake.  

Activity A:  Social Studies- Pick an American symbol.  (Flag, eagle, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, etc.) Draw a picture of your symbol and tell why it is your favorite.

Activity B:  Social Studies- Wants and Needs Poster:

Look around your house or in magazines to find 5 items you need and 5 items you want.  Talk about the differences between wants and needs.  Project--Make a poster using poster board, cardboard, construction paper or white paper.  Cut pictures out of magazines, off food boxes, or draw them.  Glue the pictures on to your paper and label each as a want or a need.

Choose a Winter STEAM challenge activity from the menu provided. Choose an activity that you already have the resources for at your house.
