Race details
Team Composition
o Each relay race will consist of 4 relay legs
o 2-4 Athletes perTeam
o Each individual athlete cannot run more than 1 loop in a row, but can run 2 relay legs total if they wish (i.e. 1st leg and 3rd leg, or 2nd leg and 4th leg)
o Younger athletes are permitted to run up in age category. Older athletes cannot run down in age category.
o Female athletes can run on a male team
o Awards given out to the top team in each gender and age category.
- JD Races (2010 & younger)
o 4 x 1.0km loops
-Categories will be divided by YOB: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010.
o Mixed-Gender Teams are permitted (must register in “Male” category)
- U16/U18 Race
o 4 x 2.0 km loops
o Mixed-Gender Teams are permitted (must register in “Male” category)
- U20/Senior/Masters
o 4 x 2.0km loops
o Scoring will be based on 5 year age categories. Categorization will be based on AVERAGE team age using age on December 31, 2023
o Mixed-Gender Teams are permitted (must register in “Male” category)
o Awards will be given out to the top Masters Male/Open team and top Masters Female team, along with any Masters teams that win a 5 year age & gender category with at least 3 teams in it.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
All registrations are to be done by Club Coaches/Registrars only (i.e. no individual entries)
REGISTRATION FOR CLUBS USING TRACKIE.ME (See below for UNBC Registrants)
- Registrars must indicate “I want to only register relays”
- Select number of Relay Teams you wish to enter (up to 4 athletes per Relay)
- Select Team (This will be the 3-4 digit code used by Athletics Canada to denote your club. I.E. TBIR, OACS, KJAK etc.)
- Select Gender: Note that only U20/Open/Masters races permit mixed-gender teams
- OPTIONAL: Registrars can create fixed relay squads at registration by adding athletes into the “MEMBERS” section. For teams/clubs that have not finalized their squads, this section can be left blank.
- Select Age category under “Details Section”:
- U20/Open Only: For all mixed-gender teams, please select “Male division”
- Click “Proceed to Next Step” to access payment information. Enter payment details and submit.
REGISTRATION FOR UNBC
Unlike the registration process of Club athletes (laid out in the meet packet), as a UNBC athlete you'll have to first enter information for each individual you wish to enter, being sure to click the following icon:
This registrant is competing on a relay only.
Once you've done so you can click "Proceed to next step", where you'll be able to add the individuals that you've previously entered into the Relay Team (see screen shots below). From there it will take you to the checkout page where you'll be able to pay. If done correctly, you'll only be paying for each relay team ($50), and not each individual athlete.

Roster Finalization
All teams will have to complete a paper relay card on the day of the meet to finalize their roster & order. The following information will be required, so please have it on hand:
Course
There are 2 different loops:
1.0km loop contained within the picnic area for JDs
- Start at the south end of the grass field beside the parking lot
- Head straight north across the field for 70m
- Slight left onto gravel trail before Hawk Picnic Shelter for 50m
- Turn right at trail intersection towards Wren Picnic Shelter and continue straight for 240m
- Just before the picnic area ends, take sharp left turn onto grass
- Continue on grass loop for 120m
- Turn right to head SW on Spirea Loop Trail and continue for 90m
- Keep right to head west on the north side of the Warbler Picnic shelter for 40m
- Take sharp 1 left turn and then 30m later a 2nd sharp left turn to loop around Warbler Picnic Shelter
- Take a sharp right turn after completing triangle loop around Warbler Picnic Shelter and continue for 60m
- Take right turn to head towards parking lot and continue for 30m
- Veer left onto grass field adjacent to parking lot to begin “W” and continue for 70m
- Take the first hairpin turn (left) in the “W” and go straight for 50m
- Take the 2nd hairpin turn (right) in the “W” and go straight for 50m towards start/finish line
- Complete the lap of the course and hand-off
1.0km loop
2.1km loop that starts and finishes in the Picnic area and goes around the Spirea Loop Trail
- Start at the south end of the grass field beside the parking lot
- Head straight north across the field for 70m
- Slight left onto gravel trail before Hawk Picnic Shelter for 50m
- Turn right at trail intersection towards Wren Picnic Shelter and continue straight for 120m
- Merge with Spirea Loop Trail to complete loop
- 230m into Spirea Loop Trail there is a bridge
- 130m later keep going straight (do NOT turn right to take Parsons trail)
- 440m later keep left to stay on Spirea Loop Trail (do NOT turn right to take northern connector to Pacific Trail)
- 390m later keep left to stay on Spirea Loop Trail (do NOT take hairpin right onto southern connector from Pacific Trail)
- 380m later you will re-enter the picnic area from the west side
- Keep left at fork in front on Warbler Picnic Shelter and continue for 40m
- Keep going straight through the intersection and continue for another 60m
- Turn right on trail towards parking lot and keep left to head towards trail that runs north-south along parking lot
- Veer left onto grass field adjacent to parking lot to begin “W” and continue for 70m
- Take the first hairpin turn (left) in the “W” and go straight for 50m
- Take the 2nd hairpin turn (right) in the “W” and go straight for 50m towards start/finish line
- Complete the lap of the course and hand-off
