Come hang out with your friends and meet new members! Hear about what we have planned for the 2018-19 school year. We will kick off the year with a Trashin’ Fashion Challenge and Runway Showcase.
Off-Campus Opportunity: Digital Citizenship & Augmented Reality Workshop
Saturday, September 29 (11am - 2pm): Join us at the Microsoft Tech Center to explore what it means to be a responsible digital citizen in today’s world. Then, get creative with Microsoft’s 3D Mixed Reality software to create a digital experience that highlights what digital citizenship means to you.
- October 25: Forensic Chemistry
Meet Lynn Riemer, a forensic chemist who will share her experiences of working in a lab and her many years of work as a chemistry expert for the North Metro Drug Task Force. Then, test your chemistry skills in our own version of a crime lab!
- November 15: Graphic Design
Explore the intersection of art and technology with Justine Henderson, a local graphic designer, photographer and IT professional. You’ll also get to learn some fundamental design principles and design your own business card using Canva.
Off-Campus Opportunity: SEAC’s Annual Gingerbread Bridge Contest
Friday, November 16 (11am - 3pm): Teams will have the chance to compete against other students, architects and engineers. Girls in STEM rocked this last year! Be sure to assemble your team no later than October 15. More info at www.gingerbreadbridge.com/denver

Hang out with friends, decorate cookies, and make a light up greeting card for someone special.

- January 17: Biomedical Engineering
Meet Michelle Mellenthin, a biomedical engineer and and post-doctorate researcher at CU Denver’s Smith Lab. Learn how to spot diseased cells in mice and fold your own origami microscope to observe various samples from the lab.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day by exploring the heart with two cardiologists!
- March 14: Satellites & Business Systems
Meet Shelly Sousa, experienced tech professional and current Business Systems Analyst at Viasat Inc. Learn about how we get internet from space and experiment with programming on a Raspberry Pi computer.
- April 25: Web Development
Meet Michelle Lim, a full-stack web developer and educator. Find out what it means to create web apps and work as a freelancer (aka your own boss). Then, learn the basics of HTML/CSS and start to code your very own website.
- May 9: End of Year Wrap Up & Social
You’ll have a chance to present your websites, reflect on our experiences and socialize one last time. 8th graders will be recognized as we send them off to high school!
