Many times parents have asked what they can do to help their children during the school year. The following are offered as suggestions:
Responsibility for improving school quality and student achievement rests with everyone who has a stake in our public education system: teachers, parents, students, and community and business leaders. The following lists offer guidelines for sharing responsibility of education.

The school district makes available an optional accident insurance policy that parents may purchase. Information is sent home with each child at the beginning of the school year. The school does not carry insurance on students or insurance to cover personal property of students.

The Building Advisory Accountability Committee is the formal organization that presents site-based decisions to the District Advisory Accountability Committee for consideration. This committee gives parents an opportunity to become part of the decision making process. The BAAC meets at least quarterly.
By law the local board appoints a District Advisory Accountability Committee to advise the board. The DAAC is required to compile and review the school levels goals, objectives and plans and make recommendations to the local board of education. Grades K-2 will use the standards based grading scale of 1, 2, 3, and 4 on report cards:
1=does not meet grade level expectations
2= approaching grade level expectations
3-meets grade level expectations
4=exceeds grade level expectation

Parents and students are encouraged to regularly view grade information on Infinite Campus. This is a great way for parents and students to be aware of individual grades in a class as well as in understanding what assignments are missing and need to be completed. There is a mobile app that can be downloaded for parent convenience. Fees will also be assessed this year using Infinite Campus, please see the information that comes home with your student for specific procedures.
King-Murphy Elementary School wants to see all of its students every day. If students are ill, we want to see them get as healthy as possible before returning to school. Per policy JH-P, if your child is absent please inform the office of their absence and the cause for their absence. Absences due to illness are considered excused absences. If your student is absent for more than three days due to illness, please acquire a note from your physician that your child is cleared to return to school. Absences that are not due to illness or the other reasons listed in policy JH, will be recorded as unexcused; unless, they have been prearranged with the school’s administrator.
Make-up work shall be provided for any class in which a student has an excused absence unless otherwise determined by the building administrator or unless the absence is due to the student’s expulsion from school. It is the responsibility of the student to pick up any make-up assignments permitted on the day returning to class. There shall be 2 school days allowed for make-up work for each day of absence. Make-up work shall be allowed following an unexcused absence or following a student’s suspension from school with the goal of providing the student an opportunity to keep up with the class and an incentive to attend school.

Teachers will take attendance at 8:30. Once students arrive to their classroom a lunch count will also be tallied. Classroom monitors will bring the attendance/lunch count to the office. Please stress to your student the importance of signing up correctly.
Students arriving after the 8:30 bell are considered late and must be checked in at the office accompanied by their parents before going to their classroom. If a student who arrives late is buying lunch they must also let the office know what they would like for lunch, so mistakes in lunch count can be avoided.

Lunch is offered to students every full day of school and breakfast is offered on each day of school. Eligible children may receive meals free or at a reduced price, applications are available from the office.
Students may purchase individual meals or may bring prepayments in any amount, students can submit lunch/breakfast monies to the cafeteria staff at breakfast. When their meal accounts get low, a receipt will be sent home with the student. If accounts reach a zero balance, students will call from the office to remind parents to send money.
Students must eat their sack lunches in the lunchroom. All trash must be thrown away in the cans provided. Students are expected to clean up after themselves at lunch time. Students must stay in the cafeteria area during breakfast and lunch. No food is to be taken out of the cafeteria.

Any school official or employee who has reasonable cause to know or suspect that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect shall immediately upon receiving such information report or cause a report to be made to the appropriate county department of social services or local law enforcement agency.
Every Wednesday during the school year, a “Shout Point” will go out to all KM families. It will include a school wide update/message from the principal. Attached to the “Shout Point” will be a pdf of the week’s announcements and/or flyers. A 9 X 12 plastic portfolio/folder or laminated manila folder called a "Wednesday Folder" is sent home with each student. It will contain school notices or other information for parents that require a signature or that need to be returned to school, as well as student work or messages from your student’s teacher. To make this procedure effective, parents should expect the folder home on Wednesday and return the folder on Thursday so it will be available for the next week.

The curriculum at King-Murphy Elementary is driven by the Common Core State Standards and the Colorado Academic Standards. King-Murphy Elementary school is an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme World School, grades K-6. It is the framework through which the transdisciplinary curriculum is presented. Research based instructional strategies are a part of every lesson in every grade level. Teachers strive to make the majority of lessons inquiry based. Inquiry based activities along with Foss Kits and other curricular materials are used for science.
Everyday Mathematics curricula is used in the instruction of Mathematics. 6-Trait Writing and Step-Up-To-Writing are methods of writing instruction that are used in all grades. In addition, students at King-Murphy use Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math (grades 3-6). Students in grades K-6 receive instruction in art, music, physical education, Spanish, and computers. Library time and book checkout is scheduled for all students, preschool through grade 6. Houghton Mifflin/Harcourt Journeys Reading series will be used in grades K through 6 and Orton Gillingham literacy method in grades K-2.
The District, unless directed otherwise by specific order of a court, assumes that there are no restrictions regarding the non-custodial parent's’ right to be kept informed of the student’s school progress and activities. The student shall not be permitted to visit with or be released to anyone, including the non -custodial parent, without the approval of the custodial parent.
King-Murphy Elementary School is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen cell phone or electronic devices. Cell phones may not be used from the time a student enters the school, until the end of the day. Ipods and other electronic devices may not be used during lunch, passing periods or before school starts. Any student who violates this rule will have their item confiscated. On the first offense, the student may pick it up in the office at the end of the day. On the second offense, a parent must pick up the device. On the third offense, the item may be picked up at the end of the school year or picked up by the parent. Dependent upon the nature of the usage a student may be accountable for their actions through the discipline procedures at the school.
Given the increased use of technology in our classrooms today, a teacher may give a student/class permission to use an electronic device like a tablet for reading or other academically focused activities. It is the student’s responsibility to follow the expectations that the teacher has defined, otherwise the above consequences will be carried out.
The use of any electronic devices that are deemed to be detrimental to the health, welfare and safety of others, or those that interfere with the school’s ability to provide educational services, may result in disciplinary action. This includes online postings outside of school hours.
Student safety is our number one priority. We have an emergency plan, and practice lockdown procedures as well as traditional fire drills. In the unlikely event that we would have to evacuate and leave the school grounds, students will be transported by bus to a safe location off-site.
Under normal circumstances, school closings are announced before the first scheduled bus stops. Usually this occurs between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. and is reported to the following radio and television stations.

The district has also initiated the “Shout Point” system which generates automated calls regarding school closures as well as other important school-related notices. If a decision is made to have school, and weather conditions in your area are severe, you must determine if such conditions warrant keeping your child at home that day. When it becomes necessary to suspend school bus transportation after students are at school or bus pick-up has begun, school will not be cancelled. Parents will be notified that they may pick up their child(ren) and take them home at their discretion. It is important that each family has a plan familiar to their children. If children are to ride with neighbors or friends, parents must make this decision and notify the school office. School will be kept open and supervision will be provided until all children are accounted for or when district transportation is again available.
This is a required form. Students will be required to have a signed emergency card each year. It is essential that this card be filled out completely and accurately. This form gives the school directions for emergency medical care as well as telephone numbers where parents can be contacted. At the time of emergency, the school will make every attempt to notify the parent or guardian. If contact cannot be made, direction's on the emergency card will be followed. In extreme emergencies, the student will be put under professional care with or without family permission.
Fire drills are required by law and are held at regular intervals as an important safety precaution. It is essential that when the first signal is given, everyone obeys promptly and follows emergency procedures. The teacher will close windows and doors and go with the students to the nearest exit if an evacuation is necessary. Students are to be quiet and orderly when leaving the building and wait patiently for the "all clear" signal to be given by an administrator.
Lockdown procedures will be practiced occasionally during the school year and students will be educated about what to do in a lockdown circumstance. Whenever an emergency procedure is in effect, students are not to leave school grounds.
An ambulance will be called for immediate transport to a medical facility according to procedure set up by the ambulance crew. In cases where an ambulance is not available, the student will be transported to the nearest medical facility.
All trips ask a fee for participation. Scholarships are available to cover a portion of the cost for field trips, up to a maximum of 50%, if a family is in need. Partial scholarships may be available for overnight trips, along with fundraising opportunities. Please contact the office or your child's teacher if needed.
Students going on school sponsored field trips must have a signed permission slip from their parent/guardian before they may participate. If a student needs to arrive or leave from a school sponsored field trip in a private vehicle, a permission slip stating exactly who the student will arrive/depart with is to be filled out and on file prior to the trip. A new form will need to be filled out for each trip.
It is school policy that those parents attending field trips as chaperones NOT bring younger siblings or students from another classroom with them. We need the assistance of those parents in supervising/helping with the classroom students on the field trip. In addition, chaperones are requested to ride the bus with the students. All parents volunteering to serve as a field trip chaperone must be a documented school volunteer. Please see the office for a volunteer packet.
Students participating in fundraising activities do so as voluntary participants. Any funds raised by students are the property of the clubs/school for which they were raised. It is contrary to law to use funds raised for self-enrichment by either student or teacher. All funds raised are handled by the bookkeeper.
The Clear Creek School District’s Gifted Education Program strives to provide each gifted student with a differentiated educational experience in order to meet each of their individual needs. Gifted students receive services within the general education classroom through ongoing and explicit support from their classroom teachers and the Gifted Education Coordinator. The program has a very comprehensive referral process to find and evaluate all students who may need gifted services. Once a student is referred, the gifted education team will decide whether the team moves to evaluation, declines to evaluate, or recommends that the student is placed on a strengths-based intervention plan.
All gifted students meet and help develop their Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) annually. With the help of their teachers, counselor, parents and the Gifted Education Coordinator they develop relevant academic and affective goals. The teacher and Gifted Coordinator work together to progress monitor each student who is a part of the Gifted Program quarters 2,3, & 4. Students are also provided with pull-out groups to help address their affective needs and to meet and work with other gifted students within the school.
Contact the Gifted Education Coordinator for referral documents or other gifted resources at anytime throughout the school year. Deadline for gifted education referrals is April 1st annually.
The Board of Education has designated the Superintendent (320 Highway 103, P.O. Box 3399, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, (303) 567-3851) as the coordinator of compliance activities relating to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, addressing equal educational opportunities for the disabled.
The school nurse and health assistant are at King-Murphy part time. If a student becomes ill/injured at school, he/she should obtain a pass/permission from the classroom teacher or supervising adult and report to the nurse, health assistant or nurse designee. If the school nurse is not on duty, the designee will assess the student's condition and notify the parent. Students should not remain at school if they are sick. Arrangements must be made by parents to pick up their sick child. School personnel will not dispense medication without a doctor's written permission.
The school nurse shall develop and implement a health care plan for each student with a diagnosis of a potentially life-threatening food allergy. Reasonable accommodations shall be made to reduce the student’s exposure to agents that may cause anaphylaxis within the school environment. Emergency medications for treatment of the student’s food allergies or anaphylaxis shall be kept in a secure location accessible to designated school staff. Staff directly involved with a student who has a known food allergy shall receive emergency anaphylaxis treatment training.
No treatment of injuries except first aid shall be permitted in the schools. First aid is that immediate help given by the best qualified person at hand in case of accident or sudden illness.

The staff at King-Murphy Elementary School are continuing to implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) which focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. This programme encourages international-mindedness and a positive attitude for learning by engaging students through inquiry and develops their awareness of the process of learning so that they become lifelong learners. The programme reflects real life by encouraging students to question and to look in-depth into real issues. In addition, the IB PYP emphasizes, through the learner profile and attitudes, the development of the whole student-physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically. IB students strive to be:

The most significant and distinctive features of the IB Primary Years Programme are the six transdisciplinary themes. These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important to, all of us. The six themes of global significance are:
The six transdisciplinary themes act as the framework of knowledge contained within the curriculum of inquiry-based investigations. A variety of universal ideas that require a high level of involvement and understanding on the part of the students will be explored within the six units of inquiry at each grade level. These inquiries are substantial, in-depth and are developed over the course of several weeks.
Since these ideas are related to the world beyond the school, students see the relevance of the content and connect with it in ways that are engaging and challenging. Students who learn in this way begin to reflect on their roles and responsibilities as learners and become actively involved with their learning.
All students engaged in the Primary Years Programme learn that a unit of inquiry will involve them in in-depth exploration of an important idea, and that the teacher will collect evidence of how well they understand the idea. Consequently, assessment is an important part of each unit of inquiry as it both enhances learning and provides opportunities for students to reflect on what they know, understand, and can do. The teacher’s feedback to the students provides the guidance, the tools and the incentive for students to become more competent, more skillful, and better at understanding how to learn. As a result, teachers provide students with opportunities to work in a variety of ways, including on their own and in groups.
Along with the transdisciplinary themes, the traditional disciplines always retain an important role in the IB Primary Years Programme. The six specified subjects are language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and personal, social and physical education. The overall expectations for each subject area are defined for each year of the programme.
As a guiding light, the ten aspirational qualities of the learner profile, inspire and motivate the work of teachers and students. Primary Years Programme learners strive to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective.
No student is permitted to attend or continue to attend any school in this district without meeting the legal requirements of immunization against disease unless the student has a valid exemption for health, religious, personal, or other reasons as provided by law.
Student use of the Internet and electronic communications is a privilege, not a right. Failure to follow the use procedures contained in this policy shall result in the loss of the privilege to use these tools and restitution for costs associated with damages and may result in school disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion and/or legal action. The District may deny, revoke, or suspend access to District technology or close accounts at any time.
In addition to the many field trips that occur during the year, there are numerous special events that take place year after year. Listed below are some of them:
All "Lost and Found" items will be kept in the lobby area on a rack outside the office. Found items left on the bus are usually kept on the bus for a few days. Please label items with the child's name to prevent loss. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity after an attempt to reunite items with owners is made.
The King-Murphy School office will take messages from parents to be given to their child on request. However, due to varying circumstances, we cannot always guarantee we will be able to reach the student in a timely manner; especially at the very end of the day. If you must call to leave a message, please do so before 2:4 p.m so a bus pass/message can be written and given to the student.

Parties are held to celebrate Halloween, December Holidays, Valentine's Day, and the end of the school year. Students who do not wish to participate in class parties may be excused to the office. Please make your child’s teacher aware of any dietary needs your child may have.
Toys and games brought to school tend to interfere with the learning process and often create problems among children. Students wish to share and show their prized acquisitions and are often distracted from the classroom task at hand by their items. Expensive toys and games are often damaged or lost at school. Please do not allow your child to bring these types of items to school. Items requested by the teacher for an activity or special project are exempt from this policy.
The school cannot assume responsibility for the personal property of children or adults. Because of the possibility of loss or damage, items of value such as electronic devices, large amounts of money, jewelry, etc. should not be brought to school. Personal property is not covered by school insurance. Helping children take care of money is an important lesson and should receive your instruction at home as well as our concern at school. Students should not carry extra money to school. Lunch money needs to be carried in a safe place on their person. Please put money for field trips, book orders, etc., in a labeled envelope.
King-Murphy Elementary School wishes to foster a caring and friendly school environment. Elementary students express themselves in a variety of caring and friendly ways; however not every child is comfortable with forms of expression that result in contact like hugs. Students are encouraged to be supportive of and caring towards their classmates and schoolmates by being knowledgeable about people’s personal space and feelings. Parents are asked to continue these types of conversations at home, so that individual families can be allowed to instill and their children can practice these values. Inappropriate displays of affection will result in disciplinary action appropriate to the age of the student(s) involved.
Times are scheduled each day for students to have an outside recess. Please make sure that your child is dressed warmly on cold days with hats, gloves, warm coats, and boots. Grades K through 1 have a morning, lunch, and afternoon recess most days and grades 2 through 6 have a lunch and afternoon recess most days.
The No Child Left Behind Act provides that parents have the right to know the professional qualification of the classroom teachers who instruct their child. Arrival 8:15 - 8:30: The school will be open to receive students at 8:15 as the buses arrive. Students are welcome to go straight to breakfast if they need breakfast at 8:15. All other students will go straight to classrooms for morning routines in their classrooms. Students who arrive before 8:15 need to be supervised by a parent. Students will not be allowed in classrooms until 8:15. Attendance will be taken in classrooms at 8:30. After 8:30 students will be considered tardy.
To enhance student safety in the afternoons, we ask that parents who are picking up their student(s) between 3:15 - 3:35 PM avoid parking in the upper spaces where the buses load, unless they are willing to wait to leave until all the buses have left, by 3:35 most days. Keeping the bus loading lane clear helps staff monitor and maintain the safety of all of our students in the crosswalk and upper drive area. Please do not leave your vehicle in the bus lanes in front of the school, even briefly. It is also highly appreciated if the area in front of our mailbox is always clear. Please observe the stop signs at the ends of our driveways.
If your child is to be picked up by someone other than parents or guardians, a note or telephone call to the school office is required. In addition, any changes in afternoon bus schedules, i.e. different bus stop, also require office notification. (Board Policy JLIB)
Special events at school do tend to create some havoc and at times inconveniences in the parking areas. Those who have difficulty with the stairs can be dropped off at the upper lot and handicapped parking is available in the upper lot.
When parents/designees drop off or pick up a student outside of arrival or dismissal times, please escort the student(s) to the office and sign the student(s) in or out at the office using the clipboard provided on the counter. Please do not park in the upper back parking lot as that lot is reserved for staff and handicap access only between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. If you know in advance that you will be picking your child up, please send a note indicating the time and the nature of the appointment, so the office staff my record it correctly for attendance purposes.
Students are expected to go directly home after school unless they have been requested to stay or are scheduled for an after school activity. If you find it necessary to change the normal bus riding routine for your child, please contact the school office. If your child is to take a different bus, again, please contact the school office or send a written note with the child. Bus notes are to be turned in to the office and authorized. A bus pass will be sent to the student with the necessary information to be passed on to the bus driver. No bus pass will be issued at the request of a student.
The privilege of riding a school bus is contingent upon a student’s good behavior and observance established regulations for student conduct both at bus stops and on board buses. After due warning has been given to the student and to parents/guardians, the principal may withhold from the student the privilege of riding the school bus as well as impose other discipline. Student rules of conduct are posted in each bus and available at the school office.
The District provides buses for activities after school, but activity buses need to be booked and approved in advance by the Transportation Director and least 3 students need to ride in order for a run to King-Murphy.

Only those students who are involved in school sponsored activities, after school learning or detention will be allowed to ride the activity bus. Students must have a pass to ride the activity buses. You may obtain bus passes from the coach/sponsor of activities at the beginning of each new season or activity or from the King-Murphy Elementary School secretary for a temporary pass. Bus passes will change each season; drivers will check.

The administration reserves the right to suspend transportation privileges at any time based on student behavior and other considerations.
Both individual and sports pictures are taken during the school year. Pictures may be purchased at the time the pictures are taken. No one is under any obligation to purchase pictures. There is no cost for having student pictures taken for the original student I.D. card photo. All published pictures must comply with dress code requirements.

Telephones located in the school office are not for use of students to make personal phone calls except for emergency situations. Students generally will not be allowed to make phone calls during class time unless permitted by the teacher. If your child is ill the secretary will call you for your child.
Special learning needs are met by a variety of service providers. These include: speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, hearing and vision screening, preschool assessment, counseling, and reading support. The teachers and staff at King-Murphy employ the Response to Intervention model as a means to identify students who are struggling to meet grade level expectations. The RTI committee is a group of teachers who consult and assist teachers to set goals, collect data, and to gather resources and information about instructional practices for students who are in need of more intensified instruction. In addition to services offered in the school, children and their families may take advantage of the wide range of services provided by Jefferson Center. These services range from psychiatric and emergency care to the Families Together Program, which helps families with at risk youths stay together. 6th Grade Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities at Clear Creek Middle School. Some of the activities for this year are as follows: Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Skiing, Wrestling, Baseball, Track, Girls Soccer, Science Olympiad, and Student Council.
Utilizing both our IB attributes and our Positive Behavior Support matrix we have high expectations for students behavior inside and outside of school. Below are some of our detailed expectations followed by consequences when they are not followed and corrective action which is taken so that students may learn how to act to meet those expectations.
Providing a strong basic and beyond education is King-Murphy Elementary School's number one goal. Therefore a safe, orderly environment is a necessity that comes even before that. The King-Murphy Elementary School positive behavior management system is designed to provide an optimum environment for learning. The system assumes and reinforces that students want and are able to assume responsibility for their conduct. In order to help all King-Murphy students behave responsibly and respectfully, the King-Murphy staff utilizes the Positive Behavior Support program (PBS).

At all times, a student’s behavior should be refined and courteous. An indication of the cultural level of the school is the conduct of the student body at an assembly or an evening performance. Whether guests are present or not, each student is personally responsible for the impression made by the school as a whole. Proper audience behavior that is expected during all assemblies and performances is as follows:
Students must be supervised by an adult at all times.
It is important that students engage in active outdoor play on a regular basis. It is equally important that all students to exercise appropriate behavior during recess. This means good sportsmanship, no bullying or exclusionary behavior, and using good judgment to keep all students safe on the playground. The following is a general, but not definitive listing of expected playground expectations.

Bullying is defined as any written or verbal expression, or physical act or gesture, or a pattern thereof, that is intended to cause distress upon one or more students in the school, on school grounds, in school vehicles, at a designated school bus stop, or at school activities or sanctioned events. Students and staff are urged to report information regarding violence, troubling events or bullying to school administration. Students may also call the “Safe 2 Tell” hotline 7 days a week @1-877-542-SAFE.
The Bully Proofing Your School Curriculum is used to help students understand bullying and its effects.
Parents are responsible for the supervision of their children at before and after-hours school events. This includes concerts, meetings, practices, and fundraisers. The lobby of the school tends to be a natural gathering point for visitors because of its open feeling, please help us keep the noise level at a level 1 (low talking level) in the lobby overall; it is difficult to hear inside the office when the volume is increased in the lobby.
The purpose of any discipline plan is to create a classroom where caring and learning prevail. Students help establish class norms at the beginning of the school year and participate in class meetings as needed throughout the year to refine and clarify the norms. They help build a caring classroom and school community and work to resolve the academic and social issues that arise in the daily functioning of our school. This discipline plan sets out general guidelines which will be used to address disciplinary violations. However, the School reserves the right to impose more severe consequences (up to and including expulsions and/or contact with law enforcement) if the circumstances warrant.
When a student behaves inappropriately at school, he/she is referred to the principal by way of a “Disciplinary Incident Report.” The problem behavior is classified as either a “minor” or a “major”. Three minors equal one major. Minors warrant a loss of recess or other consequence deemed appropriate by the principal and/or classroom teacher. Majors typically warrant consequences that align with the procedures included in policy such as suspension from school.
In order to ensure the best possible educational environment for all students at King- Murphy Elementary School unacceptable behavior shall be prohibited and subject to disciplinary action (whether as a participant or spectator). Students who exhibit inappropriate or unacceptable behavior understand that there will be consequences for their actions. The following are definitions of consequences for inappropriate conduct at school, school-sanctioned activities and on the school bus:
It is the policy of the Board to maintain classrooms in which student behavior does not interfere with the ability of the teacher to teach effectively or the ability of other students to participate in classroom learning activities. Students shall be expected to abide by the code of conduct adopted by the Board and any other appropriate classroom rules of behavior established by the building principal and/or classroom teacher for the purpose of maintaining order and a favorable academic atmosphere. Any student who violates the code of conduct or other classroom rules may be subject to removal from class and/or disciplinary action.
Removal from class under this policy does not prohibit the District from pursuing or implementing additional disciplinary measures, including but not limited to detentions, suspensions or expulsions for the conduct or behavior for which the student was removed. Parents/guardians shall be notified of the student's removal from class in accordance with established procedures.
Students with disabilities are neither immune from the school district's disciplinary process nor entitled to participate in programs when their behavior impairs the education of other students. Students with disabilities who engage in disruptive activities and/or actions dangerous to themselves or others will be disciplined in accordance with their IEP, any behavioral intervention plan and Board policy.
A parent conference will occur for each incident where an In-School-Suspension or Out-of-School Suspension is a part of the official consequence. When a student has been suspended for a second time for a material and substantial disruption in the classroom, on school grounds, in school vehicles, or at school activities or events, an individual remedial discipline plan may be developed for the student. The plan is developed with the participation of the student, parents, teacher, and school principal using resources and options from both home and school. The plan will contain guidelines, a monitoring system, and an evaluation process. The student and the parent/guardian will be notified in writing of each suspension that will count towards the student being declared habitually disruptive.
Students who, through willful and overt behavior, are suspended three times during the school year for causing a material and substantial disruption in the classroom, on school grounds, in school vehicles, or at school activities or events, and who violate their individual remedial discipline plans may be declared habitually disruptive students, for which expulsion is mandatory pursuant to the law. An expulsion hearing is mandatory for habitual disruption, possession of deadly weapons, sale of an illegal drug, or adult level robbery/assault

Carrying, bringing, using, or possessing any weapon, including dangerous or deadly weapons, in any school building, on school grounds, in any school vehicle, or at any school-sponsored activity without the authorization of the school or the School District is prohibited.
A safe and disciplined learning environment is essential to a quality educational program. District-wide standards on student attire are intended to help students concentrate on schoolwork, reduce discipline problems, and improve school order and safety. The following items are not acceptable in school buildings, on school grounds, or at school activities:
The Principal’s discretion shall be the final determination of appropriateness of dress. The main objective is to preserve the educational process and a stable learning environment.
Student involvement is valued and numerous extended learning opportunities are available within the school day and afterschool. These include, but are not limited to Student Council, National Elementary Honor Society, Band, Snow Dodgers, Science Fair, Art Shows, Talent Show, Young Authors, Choir, Spelling Bee, and Yearbook.
Interrogations: The School will make a concentrated effort to contact parents or guardians before releasing students to law enforcement officers.
Searches: Except where an emergency requires immediate action, no search shall be undertaken without first consulting with the Building Principal or Superintendent of Schools.
Students, Lockers and Belongings: School administrators or their designees may search individual students, lockers, and their belongings when, based on reasonable suspicion, such a search is necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of the students and the school. All lockers shall remain the property of the school and the school shall be deemed to have, and shall retain access at all times. The lockers shall be subject to generalized searches and inspection at all times.
To promote the general health, welfare and well-being of students and staff, smoking, chewing, or any other use of any tobacco products by staff, students, and members of the public is banned from all school property.
Students are responsible for all textbooks and other learning materials issued to them. In case of damage, loss, or theft, the student will be charged accordingly. Fees must be paid by the end of the year. End of year report cards will be held in the office if students are owing for damaged or missing library books.
All visitors, including parents, to the building during school hours are required to sign in and secure a visitor's pass from the office. Upon departure visitors must also sign out and return their visitor pass. Loitering in a school building is prohibited by law. Any individual visiting the school must have an appointment to meet with a teacher or principal, volunteering in the school, or attending a school program.
In order to maintain a fluid academic environment for students, visitors will not be allowed to attend and observe classes without having discussed their visit with the principal prior to their visit. This includes family members, parents and friends of students who attend a different school. Parent volunteers, please follow the procedure to become an official volunteer within the school.
