Cambridge IFA held 4th Global Good Governance Awards in Jakarta

 

(Cambridge, March 14, 2019) Cambridge IFA, a UK-based financial intelligence house and governance think-tank, held the 4th edition of Global Good Governance Awards (3G Awards) in Jakarta, Indonesia. The previous three Awards Ceremony were held in Istanbul (2016), Dubai (2017) and Kuala Lumpur (2018). A large number of winners this year and on previous occasions have been from government sectors, large corporations and public sector organisations in the Middle East, particularly the GCC. 3G Awards is the largest felicitation programme in the emerging economies, promoting good governance in the three chosen sectors of government, business and social sector & philanthropy.

This year’s 3G Awards are based on a revamped methodology from previous year when the initial approach of a global poll was replaced by an intelligence-based approach. The research team at Cambridge IFA undertook an extensive data mining exercise to identify 4-5 nominees in each of the 35 categories drawn from the government & politics, businesses and corporations, and social sector organization.

The award winners come from about 15 countries, including the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, who was bestowed upon the top 3G Leadership Award in Government & Politics 2019. The Award was received by the Djibouti Prime Minister, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, who flew from Djibouti for the colourful Awards Ceremony in Jakarta. “The 3G Awards Ceremonies have proven to be an excellent opportunity for the players from different regions to network and emulate the best governance practices,” said Professor Humayon Dar, Founder of the 3G Awards. “We were pleased to have liaised with the governments of Djibouti and Indonesia to start conversations on the areas of cooperation between the two countries.”

Amongst the notable winners were Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which bagged two awards – 3G Excellence in Corporate Governance Award 2019 and 3G Best Corporate Governance Reporting Award 2019. “This win signifies the vision of Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, who aims at making Dubai a global centre of excellence for governance in government departments, while facilitating the corporate sector to grow their businesses in a socially responsible manner” said Dr. Sofiza Azmi, Chairman of the 3G Awards Committee. The other important winner from the GCC was Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), which received 3G Service Excellence Award 2019. “We at FOCP are delighted to receive the 3G Service Excellence Award three years in a row. This is a remarkable achievement under directives and patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah,” said HE Sawsan Al Fahoum Jafar, Chairman of Board of Directors of FOCP.

“Over the last four years, we have adopted a strategy to highlight the role of regional players in the good governance regime to the global community,” said Dr. Sofiza Azmi, CEO of Cambridge IFA and Chairman of 3G Awards Committee. “The 2017 3G Awards Ceremony was held in Dubai, which helped us identify the players like Friends of Cancer Patients from the UAE, and BAZNAS and the Indonesian Waqf Board for their commendable efforts and commitment to good governance.”        

The 3G Leadership Award for Social Sector & Philanthropy was presented to Sulliman Mahomed Noor, a business tycoon from South Africa, for his personal contributions to development of numerous social sector organisations in South Africa and elsewhere. As President of the World Memon Organisation (WMO), Sulliman Noor has played a tremendously important role in development process in the countries where WMO is operational and significant.

The other winners came from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Pakistan Brunei Darussalam and South Africa.

This year, 3G Awards Committee nominated over 200 organisations and individuals from the public sector, businesses, and social sector and philanthropy. They went through a rigorous process of selection, and the winners in about 35 categories are going to receive 3G Awards & Certificates in a colourful celebration of good governance in government & politics, business, and social giving and enterprise.

The Gala Dinner at the Awards Ceremony was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia. Mr. Christophe Bahuet, Country Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia was the Guest of Honour who presented the top 3G Leadership Award in Government & Politics to HE Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, Prime Minister of Djibouti.
