What percentage of students stay on campus during the weekends?

N/A - We have 900 on-campus residents across 3 residence halls, with plans approved to have an additional hall completed by 2020

New initiatives on campus and/or institutional goals?

Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing (CGAM) labs were just completed in January 2018. CGAM serves as part of our Engineering Labs.

What is something you might find at the school that may not exist at any other school?

Unique student clubs like the SAE Baja Team (Dunebuggy team), Video Game Design Club, Hackers Club, RC Drone/Hobby Club

All Engineering and Engineering Tech programs are ABET accredited, College of Bus. Mgmt. is AACSB accredited

If located outside of New England, what New England area schools is your institution similar to?

Worcester Poly or Wentworth IT, but a little smaller with additional majors in the Arts & Sciences / Health Science fields

What is the distance to the nearest big city? And what is that city?

We are located less than 2 miles outside of Utica, NY, which is a city of roughly 65,000 people. We’re also 40 minutes from Syracuse, NY.

What is the approximate distance from Westborough, driving and/or flying?

Google Maps puts us 231 miles away from the Westborough HS, with a 3 hour and 37 minute drive time.

What are your most popular majors?

Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, 1+2+1 Nursing, Business Administration, Accounting

What are your newest and/or most unique majors?

Newest: Finance (re-opened for Fall 2018 semester), Interactive Media & Game Design (IMDG) (opened Fall 2017 semester)

Unique: IMGD, Network & Computer Security, Nanoscale Engineering, Nanoscale Science, 1+2+1 Nursing Partnership, Community & Behavioral Health

What majors are you hoping to grow?

Nanoscale Engineering, Nanoscale Science, 1+2+1 Nursing, and the Pre-Professional Tracks (PT/OT/PA/Pre-med/pharm/vet) within our Community & Behavioral Health and Biology programs, as well as our Pre-Law Track for the Undeclared/Interdisciplinary Studies programs.

Will applying “undecided” for a major affect a student’s chances for acceptance?

No

Is there a statistical advantage to applying early decision or early action?

We do not offer Early Decision, but Early Action always helps

If interviews are required or recommended, where and by whom are they conducted?

Not required, but we do offer student-guided tours and informational “sit downs” with an Admissions Advisor. Sign up at sunypoly.edu/visit

Are students automatically considered for merit scholarships with the application to the school?

Yes, as long as their application is completed (including transcript and SAT and/or ACT scores) before February 1

What percentage of demonstrated financial aid do you meet?

Our most recent numbers show that 86% of our student body receives financial aid. 66% of the 2018 first-year class received an institutional merit scholarship

Is there anything else a student should know that they will not easily find in a guidebook or online?

In the 2017-18 school year, 62% of our classes had fewer than 20 students, while only 5% had more than 40. First-year retention rate is 81%.
