A note for your members:
What is work-based learning and why should I be interested?
Work-based learning (or Career Connected Learning) is not just for high school students. Understanding the importance of how school connects to your future career is important at any age level. The MT Work-Based Learning Collaborative can provide resources, planning, and guidance for any school who wants to incorporate career education at any grade level.
In the 2025 Legislative Session, we anticipate two specific initiatives that may receive funding support, both are tied to work-based learning and CTE. When these initiatives receive legislative support, you will want to make sure your school/district is ready to take full advantage of these new funding resources. (1) 6th graders funded at the HS funding level. Advocacy for this based on an increased need for CTE and career exploration at a younger grade levels. Does your 6th grade program incorporate career exploration opportunities? (2) School monetary incentive for graduates who leave with industry recognized certifications. We anticipate this incentive will be part of the STARS act and will provide incentive funding for those schools who are poised with robust CTE opportunities.
This month's SAM webinar will be critical as we advocate and educate for these incentives in the 2025 Session. Tune in to learn from our experts at OPI and the MT Work-Based Learning Collaborative.
