These amazing NCCA students and learning coaches attended the biannual field trip to the Food Bank in Raleigh on March 6, 2020. Together we processed 7,000 pounds of food which is equivalent to 5833 meals. It was a fun and productive three hours. Please join us next time!
Happy April, NCCA!
It’s your monthly reminder to complete the community service requirement for graduation :) It has been quite an unexpected spring, hasn’t it? Well, I have something uplifting for you. Check out what your wonderful classmates and teachers have been up to…
Kalie
“I helped Mrs. H in her second-grade class. I read to the class, graded some papers, helped the kids out that were struggling with the material. This taught me how to get over my fear of talking in front of others because I had to read to the class. Any practice like this helps me a lot with my anxiety.”
Kaitlyn
“I am having trouble completing my community service hours for this year so I worked a shift at the restaurant I am currently employed at and donated all of the money I make from the shift to Catherine' House.” On Kaitlyn’s log, for proof/evidence, she included a clock out sheet and the donation receipt.
Mr. Gibbons, Science Teacher
“Shortly after graduate school, I traveled with my church to Hooper Bay, Alaska on a mission trip. While there, we helped clean up the town and interacted with the local youth to provide activities and form friendships.”
Hoot hoot to these caring individuals! :)
I have received several questions about how to do community service when our state is under a Stay at Home order. I have a solution for you! Virtual Volunteering! Check out this slide deck, it has a plethora of options such as www.freerice.com and 7 Cups of Tea. In your log, you have to have proof that you did the service so for evidence you can use screenshots. Make sense? If no, reply to this message. I am here to help you so don’t be shy to reach out.
One of our service-oriented students, Tayrik, shared a neat opportunity for those interested in a legal career called Court Camp.
Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors--serve on! You need 25 hours each school year you are enrolled at NCCA. You will have ONE log where you document your hours and add proof/evidence that you completed your hours. I will need to see that log your senior year. If you want me to check it before your senior year, send it to me and ask me to review it and give you feedback. I’m happy to let you know if you are on the right track.
Seniors-if you are graduating in June 2020, please send me your completed log that documents all of your service hours by May 1, 2020. Send me your log via Edgenuity. This is how: since the template is a Google Sheet, save it to your Google Drive and go to the blue “share” button on the top right and copy and paste the link to an email message to me.
Thanks for reading and hope you have a terrific month ahead,
Dr. Sharma :)
