Frequently Asked Questions

Can my Kindergartener stay for the full day?

Yes. We now have the ability to support Kindergartners in full day programming. Half day options are also available.

Will my child need to wear a mask all day?

Monday’s (Outside) | No. Kids are welcome to wear masks throughout the day but it is not required. All programming will aim to keep social distance between participants and no physical contact (high fives or handshakes) is allowed. Kids will be required to wear masks when using indoor restrooms (this is site specific). School+ Counselors will wear masks at all times

Tuesday-Friday (Inside & Outside) | Yes. Students will be required to wear masks while they are indoors. When students are outside they are not required to wear masks but will maintain the same social and physical distancing standards as Monday’s.

How will School+ manage schedules for kids in different districts or with different schedules? Example: One student has a music lesson at 9:15am and another has a meeting at 9am.

There will be Virtual Learning focused counselors and Activity focused counselors at all times. The Virtual Learning counselors will have the class schedules for all participants throughout the day and help keep children on time for online lessons. When students have breaks between classes or there are opportunities for supplemental activities (like a nature walk), the Activity counselors for the day will ensure that the time away from the screen is safe, fun and structured as needed. The counselor to student ratio will ensure that kids have support throughout the day. Additionally, prior to the kickoff, ASA School+ will collect class schedules from all participants to help plan and manage each day as efficiently as possible.

Who are the coaches/counselors?

The School+ Directors at each site are ASA’s Camp Alex and Summer Soccer Camp directors, familiar with managing full day experiences in the time of COVID. The counselors are hired based on their experience working with children in an educational, camp and/or coaching setting.

The School+ program is supported by a full time staff in the ASA office who will help with communication, weather, operational issues and on-site needs or changes throughout the day.

Can my child complete his or her asynchronous learning assignment at School+ on Mondays?

Students should complete asynchronous assignments / responsibilities before attending School+ on Mondays. To allow for more flexibility we’re offering rolling drop off from 8am-9am. This should allow assignments to be completed before kids arrive for a day of programming. On Mondays kids should not bring their learning devices and will not have access to wifi.

What happens in inclement weather?

We are realistic about the disruption that weather may cause to this fully outdoor program. We will always try and plan ahead and provide parents with as much information and lead time as possible. In the event of a predicted afternoon or morning storm we are committed to providing a half day of programming when possible. We will communicate a weekly forecast outlook on Sunday evenings (using our Red, Yellow & Green color system) and then send updates throughout the week as necessary.

In case of a surprise storm in which students are already at School+ we will use emergency shelter options to ensure kids are safe, and then contact parents for an early pickup time as necessary.

[Green — no weather issues anticipated; Yellow — the possibility exists for some inclement weather; Red — Inclement Weather will impact safety and we anticipate potential cancellation.]

What is the refund policy should the program get cancelled due to weather or COVID?

ASA is committed to recognizing undelivered programming through fair refunds. There are fixed costs associated with running a comprehensive program like School+ (tents, tables, chairs, power source, signage, balls, pinnies, speakers, operational staff, safety equipment and more). ASA will acknowledge these costs (approximately 50% of program cost), then will prorate refunds/credits/donation (approximately 50%) based on the number of full days that may be cancelled from weather and/or pandemic related changes. Should there be a partial day cancellation due to inclement weather, ASA will not refund for a partial day cancellation.

What if the structure of the programming doesn’t work for my child and we decide to remove him or her from the program?

We hope to make this program a success for every child and we are committed to working creatively to ensure everyone is supported. We do understand there are many variables involved and if you choose to remove your child from the program we will refund the balance of the remaining portion of programming (the cost is broken down per day), minus transaction and administrative fees.

What happens in case someone tests positive on COVID 19 during the School+ Camp?

Will Camp shut down?

If a participant tests positive for COVID-19 or has been in an at-risk exposure scenario, the following steps will be taken:

This is non-negotiable. It is intended that all participants and staff report any COVID-19 exposure or risk of exposure to prevent spread of the virus during ASA activities. If a family verbally shares a concern, or mentions they are keeping their child home out of precaution, please fill out the form.
