6/13/2022– Appalachian Chamber Music Festival is pleased to announce it has received a $8,800 grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation’s Detlev and Mary Ellen Preissler Fund for the Arts, Music, Design, and Nature to support Appalachian Chamber Music Festival concerts.
After a successful and acclaimed inaugural season, the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival returns August 15 - 28, 2022 for eight concerts in Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, and Shepherdstown and six concerts in nearby Virginia. Audiences will experience world-class chamber music and meet international artists in “their own backyard”. This generous grant makes ticket prices affordable for the West Virginia concerts and supports the performance of new compositions that reflect the history, nature and culture of the area. Other major sponsors include Berryville Graphics, who for the second year in a row has sponsored the commission and world premiere of a new work; the Corporation of Harpers Ferry for supporting concerts in Harpers Ferry, and a new partnership with Shepherd University’s School of Music who will host three festival concerts, including a lecture/recital, and an adult strings seminar.
“Our vision is of a world that celebrates the history, nature and culture of Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, Jefferson County and beyond, through the power of meaningful, intimate, relatable, and thought-provoking chamber music performances,” shared Katie Tertell, President and Artistic Director. “Mary Ellen Priessler says her husband Detlev described himself as a “simple country boy from West Virginia” despite being born in Berlin and his many architectural achievements and varied interests. Simple things bring us great joy, and chamber music is one of these simple things. So join us at an old train station, a converted barn, a church, the backyard of a historic home or even a music hall this summer. I think the “simple country boy from West Virginia” would approve.”
The Community Foundation was established in 1995 and awards nearly $1 million in grants and scholarships annually. With 250 endowed funds and assets of just over $30 million, EWVCF is one of the largest grantmaking organizations serving the Eastern Panhandle.
The Foundation is located at the historic Caperton Train Station at 229 East Martin Street, Suite 4, Martinsburg, WV 25401. For more information, visit the website www.EWVCF.org or contact EWVCF Executive Director Michael Whalton at mwhalton@ewvcf.org or call 304-264-0353.
