INTRODUCTION

  1. The definition of ULTRACYCLING EVENT is the sport of cycling at an amateur level with high mileage, with or without competitive purposes or individual rankings and with a time limit (if provided for by the Organizing Company) with certain characteristics that distinguish it and differentiate it from traditional cycling activities such as Gran / Medio Fondo and Ciclo Touring / Randonneuring.
  2. The text of this regulation does not in any way derogate from the laws and regulations in force on the national territory, therefore during an ULTRACYCLING event, participants are required to strictly comply with the:
  1. Traffic laws
  2. These Regulations
  3. Civil Code
  4. Fair Play
  1. Hereinafter, this text must be COMPULSORILY RESPECTED AND RECOGNIZED BY ALL ORGANIZING COMPANIES AS THE ONLY REGULATION APPLICABLE TO ALL ULTRACYCLING EVENTS.

ORGANIZING COMPANY

  1. Has the obligation to respect these regulations;
  2. Must obtain the necessary permits for the carrying out of the ULTRACYCLING EVENT from the local / provincial authorities and / or from his affiliation body;
  3. It does not necessarily have to support the participants along the route, but only for their safety;
  4. It may include checkpoints along the route but they are not mandatory;
  5. It may provide a time limit to complete the route but it is not mandatory;
  6. It must ALWAYS foresee and organize individual departures for each participant at a distance of at least 90 seconds and NEVER IN GROUP;
  7. MUST suggest to participants the stipulation of a PERSONAL CIVIL RESPONSIBILITY INSURANCE and of a HEALTH INSURANCE if they do not possess them already;
  8. It may include an official LIVE position detection device only for private use and for the purposes of the safety of the participants;
  1.  This device can be shared with each participant for individual use.
  1. Must send all the documentation intended in the days prior to departure;
  2. It reserves the right to extend this regulation where necessary and ONLY for safety reasons, which remains the number one priority;
  3. At its discretion and without communication to the participants, neither before nor during the event, it may include an award ceremony for those who finish the route;
  4. It can request to verify the track recorded by each participants’ navigation device for the purpose of assigning the status of FINISHER,  or for the purpose of detecting infringements / imposing penalties;

EVENT

  1. Depending on the Country where the event is organized:
  1. it may not have competitive nature
  2. it may not use participation numbers
  3. it may not create categories of participation based on age or other type of distinction;
  1. The reimbursement of the participation fees remains at the discretion of the individual Organizing Company;
  2. It must be canceled in the event of the death of a participant.

ROUTE

  1. Must be safe in compliance with the traffic laws;
  2. It can be of 2 types:
  1. CIRCULAR with START POINT “A” and FINAL POINT “B” BEING THE SAME or
  2. LINEAR with START POINT “A” and FINAL POINT “B” BEING DIFFERENT
  1. It must be suitable for one of the following types of vehicles:
  1. Road bike
  2. TT
  3. Recumbent
  4. MTB / Gravel / CX
  5. Handbike
  1. MUST ALWAYS BE OPEN TO NORMAL TRAFFIC OF CARS AND OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORT
  2. MUST have a minimum length of 500 km
  3. MUST be represented on a digital track in GPX or KML format, ONLY OFFICIAL SOURCE to be followed.
  4. MUST include at least 1 or more SUPPORT / CONTROL POINTS to support the participants along the planned route

SUPPORT / CONTROL POINTS

  1. They must coincide if possible with:
  1. Bicycle shops
  2. Service stations
  3. Supermarkets
  4. Hotel / B & B / Motel
  5. Cafes
  1. Each passage of each participant must be notified to the Organizing Company by the participants themselves in the manner provided.

PARTICIPANTS

  1. MUST comply with these regulations under all points;
  2. They have no more rights than other road users;
  3. It is MANDATORY for all participants to STRICTLY RESPECT THE TRAFFIC LAWS, taking all the necessary precautions to avoid accidents and injuries;
  4. They are required to use the greatest prudence for their own safety and the safety of the other participants, the people following the event and any spectators;
  5. They can travel the route provided in the following CATEGORIES:
  1. WITHOUT SUPPORT (SELF SUPPORTED in SOLO OR PAIR mode)
    or
  2. WITH SUPPORT following along the route
    (in SOLO mode / TEAM of 2 or more in relay mode/PAIR mode)
  1. MUST travel the provided route exclusively solo and AVOIDING GROUPS (DRAFTING IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN);
  2. Must send all the documentation provided to the Organizing Company at least 48 hours before departure;
  3. They are obliged to present a medical certificate of ability to practice the sport of extreme cycling (Ultracycling) valid in the current year;
  4. They must be 18 years old, and maximum 80. Athletes under 18 must present a declaration of responsibility signed by both parents / guardians
  5. They can leave the course only to find an area where to eat or rest / sleep and then return to the same point that they abandoned;
  1. They must communicate to the Organizing Company any stops to rest / sleep
  2. They must communicate their intention to change the route for reasons not attributable to them;
  3. In agreement with the Organizing Company and only in cases of proven necessity, and once the simplest solution is found, can re-enter the route from a different point.
  1. They cannot be pushed by people, other cyclists or pulled by vehicles
  2. If they meet other participants on the planned route, they can ride side by side for no more than 15 minutes and NEVER draft;
  3. They must travel beyond the outermost white line of the carriageway (if any) whenever possible and without obstructing traffic in any way;
  4. They must stop in any area outside the carriageway stopping is allowed by the traffic laws in order to rest, feed themselves, replace their clothing, repair the bicycle or communicate with their SUPPORT VEHICLE if present;
  5. They must wear suitable reflective material on their clothing and / or on their bicycle both during the NIGHT and during the DAY;
  6. They must carry a device for recording the planned route if the Organizing Company requires it for the final verification of it for the purpose of the assignment of the OFFICIAL FINISHER title;
  7. He must wear an approved helmet and use it in compliance with the UCI regulations;
  8. Must notify the Organizing Company in case of withdrawal or any other impediment;
  9. Must notify the Organizing Company if he witnesses documentable irregularities by other registered participants that violate the following regulations;
  10. Cannot request for appeals;
  11. Can draft only for a short distance not greater than 5 km and ONLY with other normal road users unrelated to the event.

WITHOUT SUPPORT

  1. They cannot be assisted by family or friends along the way to be filmed or photographed;

WITH SUPPORT

  1. All VEHICLES must be registered for the event and must have:
  1. List of present members and their contact details;
  2. Driving license number of all members in the order of at least 2 out of 3
  1. National driving license must be accompanied by an International driving license if needed in the organizing country;
  1. They are dedicated to support purposes only;
  2. They must comply with the traffic laws;
  3. Must guarantee the correct functionality of the standard lighting.
  1. Other lighting systems not allowed by law are prohibited;
  2. The 4 arrows must always be on during the NIGHT if the vehicle follows the participant;
  1. the SUPPORT vehicle must not obstruct traffic.
  1. By creating a slowdown and a row of more than 3 vehicles, he must pull over and let the vehicles pass;
  1. the SUPPORT vehicle cannot drive side by side with its own moving participant;
  2. It must stop on the external side of the carriageway in dedicated areas while awaiting the passage of their participant along the entire route;
  3. It can help the participant in dedicated areas on the external side of the roadway if he decides to stop there;
  4. Members on the SUPPORT VEHICLE must wear reflective clothing DAY and NIGHT;
  5. During the ULTRACYCLING event it is strictly forbidden to follow the participant with the SUPPORT VEHICLE  during the DAY;
  6. Stereo systems and loudspeakers can be installed on the roof of the SUPPORT VEHICLE but operated only during the DAY in compliance with the traffic laws or local reference standards.

NIGHT AND DAY

  1. By DAY we mean the time slot that starts at 06:30 (06:30 AM) and ends at 18:30 (06:30 PM)
  2. By NIGHT we mean the time slot that starts at 18:30 (06:30 PM) and ends at 06:30 (06:30 AM)
  3. This time distinction may vary based on the Country where the event is organized


BIKES AND SAFETY DEVICES

  1. BIKES
  1. Must be registered for the event, including spare bikes, and pass the bike check if required;
  1. Must be equipped in compliance with the Traffic Laws;
  2. Must be equipped with reflective material:
  1. on each side of each wheel;
  2. on the front fork and on the rear stay in a visible way both from the front and the rear;
  1. rear and front lighting devices must always be on during the NIGHT.

PENALTIES AND CREDITS

  1. A violation of the following rules by the participant will always result in a penalty.
  2. The duration and number of penalties are available in the attached table.
  3. The following points are considered MEDIUM level violations of rules and will be punished with a penalty:
  1. Not respecting the PROHIBITION of drafting;
  2. Behavior dangerous for one's own safety and of others;
  3. Harassing or insulting other participants, or other road users;
  4. Not respecting the traffic laws;
  5. Create inconvenience and disorder on the route;
  6. Missing the communication of the passage through one of the SUPPORT POINTS on the route if set by the Organizing Company;
  7. Driving stretches of road outside the planned route without returning to the abandoned point;
  8. Polluting the environment by throwing waste, including those of the support vehicle
  1. Only the Organizing Company is authorized to issue time credits (for example the cyclist can receive a time credit following an unexpected event that caused a disadvantageous route change).
  2. Lack of functioning lighting can cause the participant to forcefully stop until the start of the DAY.
  3. Penalties and credits received by the participant will be promptly notified to the participant.

DISQUALIFICATION

  1. The following points are considered HIGH level rule violations and will be punished with immediate disqualification:
  1. completion of part of the course on the SUPPORT VEHICLE;
  2. participant or supporting crew behaving in a way that damages the good image of the event:
  3. stop imposed by police or law enforcement;
  4. If a participant is disqualified, the organization may reserve the right to accept or not the involved athlete in the following years.

FINISHER

  1. It is assigned to those who complete the planned route and:
  1. end within the time limits if provided;
  2. if ALL the steps to the SUPPORT / CONTROL POINTS provided have been communicated to the Organizing Company;
  1. The Organizing Company can provide a FINISHER list at the end of the event in alphabetical order
  2. The Organizing Company reserves the right to revoke this status if, after the verification of the track, it finds evident and objective differences in the route compared to the one in the event program, or violation of other rules listed above.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED

  1. The following list is not exhaustive and more documents may be requested by the organizing company depending on the Country where the event is taking place. However, in principle:
  1. all participants are recommended to subscribe a PERSONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE and PERSONAL HEALTH COVERAGE;
  2. all participants may be requested to show a regular membership card issued by their National cycling club valid in the current year;
  3. All participants are required to sign the RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM attached to this regulation
  1. For events organized outside each own National territory (for example INDONESIA), all participants may be required to subscribe a PERSONAL TRAVEL INSURANCE contract, which should include medical and repatriation costs, and personal liability. Local participants may ALTERNATIVELY present their National insurance card;
