Movie Battles II Steam Deck installation

Tested on SteamOS version 3.4.8 with GOG version of JKA

AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION
TESTED ON 6/22/2023

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Items Needed:
  1. Open Lutris and click the  + button on the top left of the window
  1. Click “Install from a local install script”
  1. Select the Lutris installer script, named “mbii.yml” by default
  1. Point both the GOG setup file and Movie Battles zip file to Lutris and hit “Install”
  1. Wait for install to finish
  1. If you notice that the log isn’t moving and it says “Exit with return code 0” at the bottom, just wait for a few more minutes. For some reason, Lutris doesn’t output everything in the log
  1. Right click on the entry and click “Create steam shortcut”, then go back into Gaming mode
You should be able to play Movie Battles II now!
Keep in mind that Movie Battles II doesn’t support gamepads, so you need to create your own control scheme using Steam Input, or just use a dock like a sane person.
Good luck and have fun!!
MANUAL INSTALLATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Items Needed:

  1. Open Lutris and click the  + button on the top left of the window

  1. Click “Search the Lutris Website for installers” and look for Jedi Academy and Install the “GOG + OpenJK” version

  1. Point the Lutris installer to the GOG executable

  1. Once installed, extract all files from the MovieBattlesII_FULL.zip into wherever you installed Jedi Academy.
  1. Default location will usually be in /Home/Games/star-wars-jedi-knight-jedi-academy/

  1. Click on the hamburger menu at the top right of the file explorer and open a new terminal.

  1. Type this line into the terminal interface (external keyboard recommended)

echo "./mbii.i386 +set fs_game \"MBII\"" > mbii.sh && chmod +x mbii.sh && chmod 777 mbii.i386

This should create a file called “mbii.sh” in the folder and set permissions for a couple of files.

  1. Go back into Lutris and duplicate the entry for Jedi Academy

  1. Right-click on the duplicated copy and click configure

  1. Point the executable section to mbii.sh
  1. You can also change the name of the duplicated entry to “Movie Battles II” if you want.

You should be able to open Movie Battles II through Lutris. You can also play in Gaming Mode by right-clicking on the Lutris entry and clicking on “Create Steam Shortcut.”

Keep in mind that Movie Battles II doesn’t support gamepads, so you need to create your own control scheme using Steam Input, or just use a dock like a sane person.

Good luck and have fun!
