 The Friends of Horton Cemetery

Confirmation of arrangements for the World Mental Health Day events on Tuesday 10th October.

If driving you are recommended to arrive and park at the Hook Road Arena (off the roundabout at the junction of Hook Road and Horton Lane, Epsom) from 12.15 and no later than 12.45

Marshalls will be at hand to guide you. Indeed marshalls will be at hand at various crossing points for the entire walking involved in all events this day.

Proceed on foot on Hook Road toward Epsom Town centre until you reach a light controlled crossing. The way will be marked and guided.

You will then cross to the private horse ride on the south-side of Horton Cemetery. The owner Mr Seymour Bourne has permitted us to use this horse ride for the day. Horses will not be using it.

The ground is somewhat uneven but is gradient free. It is not appropriate for wheelchair usage.  You should wear suitable shoes and clothing for this outdoor event.

The walk from the Hook Road Arena parking to the “Cemetery Field” is a distance of 620 metres and should take the average walker about 8 minutes.

Ceremonies will take place there, directly opposite the Horton Cemetery, for about 20 minutes duration, starting sharp at 1.00pm.

After the “Cemetery Field” ceremonies are complete a Scots Piper will lead everyone further along the horse ride onward to The Horton Arts Centre, where further ceremonies and the unveiling of the Memorial Garden, in remembrance of the 9000 buried in Horton Cemetery, will take place. Activities at the Horton Art Centre are due to start at 2.00pm.

The walk from the “Cemetery Field” to the Horton Arts Centre is 1400 metres and should take the average walker about 17 minutes.

After the Ceremonies at the “Cemetery Field” you have the option of returning the route you came to get back to your car in Hook Road Arena and drive to the Horton Arts Centre in Haven Way KT19 8NP.

If you walk to the Horton Arts Centre you need to return to the Hook Road Arena before 5pm to collect your car before the gates are closed for the night. This is a walk on Horton Lane of about 1600 metres that should take the average walker about 19 minutes.
