Handing sharps to the operator

Always pass to operator with blunt side first

Make sure operator is expecting / requesting the sharp

Never recap sharps

Discarding of sharps

Sharps disposal is expensive, thus never place unnecessary items (syringes, drug vials, tubing, gauze etc. in sharps containers.)

Discarding contaminated swabs, gauze etc.

Discard of blood soaked swabs according to OR policy (red bags)
