Friday - wear what you like, movie & disco celebration
Tomorrow, Friday, we will be celebrating the whanaungatanga and manaaki the learners have shown in bucketfuls this term. Before he left for college Kris used his values reward cards to shout the school a movie and other learners have bought a disco for everyone. Learners can wear what they like (mufti) too.
Teacher Only Day Tuesday 4th June
The school will be closed for a teacher only day Tuesday 4th June, the day after the King’s Birthday public holiday. The teachers and I will be spending the day reviewing our school mathematics and statistics curriculum including implementing the revised New Zealand Curriculum, Te Mātaiaho - Maths.
Room 2 Camp - Mangatepopo 21-24 October
Many thanks to families that have made contact offering to support our Room 2 camp in October to Mangatepopo School Camp. We have enough support and back ups to continue with planning.
Turakina School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan
The Turakina School Strategic Plan 2024 - 2025 and Annual Implementation plan can be found on our school website. The Board and I developed these documents following the whānau hui held last year and other feedback we’ve received. Throughout the year I report to the Board on the actions that have been taken to achieve the annual plan - goals and targets and the strategic plan.

Illness and Attendance at School
We have already had a number of learners quite unwell with winter bugs. Please keep your child home if they are unwell to the point they will not be able to participate in learning fully. Staying home for 1-2 days of solid rest will mean your child will recover faster. If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea they need to stay home for 48hrs after the last time they were sick or had diarrhoea. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any queries.
The role of Police
Yesterday Ben, the Police School Community officer visited with a police car and answered all the questions our learners had about the role of Police. Both classes had plenty of fun sitting in the police car and trying on the vest.
Birthdays
Many Happy Returns of the Day to Landon Hewitt who had his birthday last week.
Ngā mihi,
Leigh McKay, Principal
