What Is The Seal of Civic Engagement?

Students at Lincoln High have recently been presented with the opportunity to receive the new California Seal of Civic Engagement through demonstration of meaningful community involvement.

College and Career Technician Sruti Vadgama stated how those who are recognized have the honor of gaining both a seal and a patch at graduation.

“The State Seal of Civic Engagement is a seal you receive from the State and is placed on your graduation diploma,” Vadgama said. “You will also receive a patch from Lincoln High School.”

Students can start the pathway for this seal regardless of what grade they are in, as long as they are dedicated to putting hours into a community service project that addresses a civic problem.

“It's advisable to start a community service project or work with a community service organization and earn your service hours sooner,” Vadgama said. “The project has to show that you saw there was a civic problem, how did you address the problem and what was the outcome.”

The main reason that this seal is given out is to recognize students for making a significant positive impact on the community through their own time and efforts.

“It showcases your dedication to meaningful community involvement,” Vadgama said. “Whether through volunteering, participating in local government, supporting community initiatives, or addressing social challenges, you prove that individual actions can create significant positive change.”

Despite the seal having been given out for a few years, it is only now being offered to students of Lincoln High this year.

“It is very new to Lincoln High School and as a matter of fact even in Placer County,” Vadgama said. “As far as we know, Lincoln High School is the first high school offering it to their students in our area”

Offering this seal to students has been a productive way to help the community, helping to display caring and kindness for others and the environment.

“I think it’s always good to give back and be an active part of your community,” Vadgama said.

“Community service is always something that is good to have on your resume. It shows that you are grateful and caring.”
