The Governing Body is responsible for establishing and maintaining this policy and for ensuring that it is followed.  The Principal is responsible for implementing the decisions of the Governing Body and for complying with this policy. The policy applies to the Principal and to all staff employed by the Academy.

1. Introduction

The purpose of this policy is to set out the requirements of the recruitment process that will:

        

Our academy endeavours to ensure that we do our utmost to employ ‘safe’ staff and volunteers to work with children by following the guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2016 together with our safer recruitment policies.

2. Statutory Requirements

There are some statutory requirements for the appointment of some staff in schools – notably headteachers and deputy headteachers.  There is a requirement (S128 Education and Skills Act 2008) to undertake an additional check for those in management roles (Governors and Senior Leadership Team).

These requirements change from time-to-time and must be met.

3. Identification of Recruiters

 At least one person on the appointment panel must have undertaken safer recruitment training. Safer recruitment training must have been undertaken within the previous five years to be valid. Whenever possible at least one member of the Governing Body should be part of the appointment panel.

4. Inviting Applications

“The school is committed to safeguarding children and young people.  All postholders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks. ”
