Dear Parents & Guardians,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Westwood! We are very excited as we head into a new school year. We continue to build on our efforts to provide an engaging, relevant, and world class education for all students!

This year we strongly encourage all families to register online with our new quick and easy process. Any fees you may need to pay can be done online as well as paying for meals. We will start the year with no fees for this service. New families can register in person on August 13th from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Those that would like to register in person can come at this time and use our online system. A link for the new online registration will be emailed out August 5th.

We have several changes this year as we strive to provide a safe and caring environment for our students and staff. The district has developed a new safety plan and a new system for student drop-off and pick-up. (See at the bottom.) We are also implementing a GPS bus tracking system starting for all students that ride routes. This system will allow families are able to watch and be notified where their bus is and if it is getting close. August 19th a link will be sent out to families on bus routes to sign up for the GPS bus tracking system. The board has approved the purchase of two new buses with seatbelts to be delivered this fall. In the classrooms we will be using CrisisGo’s SafeClassroom program. Lastly, we are becoming a 5210 Healthy Choices Count school which promotes 5 or more fruits or vegetables a day, 2 hours or less of screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks and more water. More on this initiative will be coming soon.

I would like to welcome the following new faces:

And those new to different positions:

August 22         Elementary Open House 5-7pm

August 23        First Day of School - 2:30 Dismissal

August 30        Early Dismissal - 2:30

September 2        No School - labor Day

September 3         First Day of PK

Have a great rest of the summer!

Families that drop children off in the morning will be asked to take the west lane by the school sign circle and allow their children to get out of the vehicle at the curb. Then exiting the parking lot in the right side of the west lane.

Families that pickup students are encouraged to park along Rebel Way to wait for their children to be released. PK students are released first and will be outside at 3:20. PK families can then pull in like the morning and park along the curb to allow their child to get in the vehicle. This will continue as all the grades dismiss. If you have several children at school, please wait until your last child has been dismissed and pick them up together. We will have families grouped and waiting for the last child to be dismissed.

This is our effort to make sure all of our students are safe. Please be patient as the first few weeks might take a little longer than normal. I am sure by September the traffic will flow as automatic as our Show Choir performances!
