ELP Standard 9: An ELL can create clear and coherent grade-appropriate speech and text
ELP Standard 10: An ELL can make accurate use of Standard English to communicate in grade-appropriate speech and writing.
ELL Level 1:
Standards:
- Standard 9: Not introduced until Level 2
- Standard 10: With support (including context and visual aids) understand and use a small number of frequently occurring nouns and verbs, understand and use very simple sentences, respond to simple questions.
ELL Level 2:
Standards:
- Standard 9: With support (including visual aids and modeled sentences) retell an event, present simple information with emerging control of some frequently occurring linking words.
- Standard 10: With support (visual aids and sentences) recognize and use frequently occurring nouns and verbs, prepositions, and conjunctions (e.g. and, but, or) understand and use very simple sentences, produce simple questions.
ELL Level 3:
Standards:
- Standard 9: With support( including modeled sentences), retelling (in speech or writing) a simple sequence of events in the correct order, present simple information with developing control of some frequently occurring linking word and temporal words.
- Standard 10: With support (including modeled sentences), use some singular and plural nouns, use verbs in the present and past tense, use frequently occurring prepositions and conjunctions, produce and expand sentences in response to prompts.

- What are some goods and services we utilize?
- Week 1-Goods
- Week 2-Services
- Week 3-How things are made
- Skills-Use text features to locate information, picture dictionary, describe important details, settings, and events through illustrations, clarify meaning of multi meaning words, ID narrator, determine text importance, use illustrations, sort words into categories, explain difference between stories and texts, seq of events.
Unit 10: “Exploring Sound, Light, and Heat”
- How do we sense sound, light, and heat?
- week 1-What makes that sound?
- week 2-How does sound travel?
- week 3-How does the sun make light?
- Skills-ask questions, use text features, multi meaning words, describe connections between events using sequence of events, use text to determine word meaning, use illustrations to describe setting, ID who’s telling the story.

Common Assessments:
- My Earth, My Home Project (Poster or written piece)
- spelling words with two-syllables (syllables must include patterns previously learned)
- sight words (from curriculum or Phonics First)
