Update from Head Teacher

Parent Consultation

  • 91% of parents requested a slot at parent consultation. The aim is to get to 100%. Links between home and school are very important for learning.

Pre-Consultation Survey

  • Good feedback regarding pre-consultations which helps with teacher preparation and will roll this out going forward. Mrs Cran will look into an email acknowledgment.

Sports Day

  • Three new proposed dates:  Thus 5th June, Tue 17th June, Thus 19th June (initially go with first date but would move to next dates in order if bad weather etc.).

Quality Assurance Visit

  • The proposed visit date is 20 March. Part of the Local Authority quality improvement process to monitor school improvement

School Improvement Plan 25/26

  • Consultation with parents will be via a Google Form (after Easter)/

Christmas Fayre Date (Kristiana)

  • Will be held on Saturday 29th November
  • Discussed the possibility of using additional areas in the school for the school fair.
  • Proposed using Parent Partnership funding to purchase fold-down tables (no objections).
  • P7s will be able to help if they wish to do so.
  • Each area will have someone in a section leader type role.
  • Hope to have more of an emphasis on kids' crafts.
  • Suggestion that Parent Partnership funding is provided to support kids crafts. To be confirmed next year.

Easter Event (Lauren)

  • Aimed at P1 to P4.
  • Volunteers required. Please email Lauren at sacredheartparentpartnership@gmail.com
  • A Sacred Heart parent has offered to create family photos that would be available for purchase. This is being looked at (including suitable backdrop).

  • Approved and starts during April. Please share this with all of your families and friends.
  • Max. of 3 tokens per purchase.
  • Weekly updates will be given.

Midlothian Appeals Committee (Jemima)

Volunteer Independent Panel Member - School Placement / Exclusion Appeals

The panel offers families a fair and impartial hearing, independent of Midlothian Council. It considers appeals relating to the school their children should attend (placing/catchment appeals); and the exclusion of a pupil from school.

Independent Volunteer Members must either be a parent of children of school age or a person who, in the opinion of the authority, has experience in education or is acquainted with educational conditions in the area of the authority.

Garden Update (Belinda)

  • Interactive learning with P4/P5 (peas) and P5/P6 (courgettes).
  • P6/P7 is pencilled in for next week.
  • Learning about soil, seeds, and growing requirements.
  • Dobbies have donated some plants, grow lights
  • Funding request to Parent Partnership for £100 (no objections).
  • Looking at a wildflower/pollinator area at the pond.
  • Need to look at grill over pond if children are in the area.
  • Some Saturday gardening sessions will be looked at and shared if they go ahead.
