A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 12:00 p.m. Tuesday for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said visibility of one quarter mile or less is expected in dense fog.

The Advisory includes central Douglas County, Josephine and Jackson counties and eastern Curry County.

Forecasters said low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Motorists should slow down, use their headlights and leave plenty of room between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them.

The Roseburg Albertsons Store on Northwest Stewart Parkway will close in early February.

Albertsons Portland Division Director of Communications Jill McGinnis released a statement to News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN on Monday, saying the announcement was made last week.

McGinnis said, “The store is expected to close on or before Saturday, February 8th, 2025. Like all retailers, we are constantly evaluating the performance of our stores. Closing an underperforming store is always a tough decision, but we are focused on growing our business by being the favorite local supermarket, and running great stores where people love to shop”.

The move comes just thirteen months after competitor WinCo Foods opened a new store next door. It is also happening at a time when consolidation has been impacting the grocery store sector. Nationally, Albertsons acquired competitor Safeway at the start of 2015. A merger between Kroger, who owns Fred Meyer and other stores, and Albertsons, is expected to close at the end of this year. However, three antitrust lawsuits are seeking to block that merger.

News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN is seeking more information from Albertsons regarding the local store closure.

Just a few days after a major fire, it appears likely that the Harvard Shoe Repair Store will not reopen, even after the building is repaired.

Joseph Lee had been trying to help his parents, James and Young Lee, following an early morning fire on Monday, December 2nd. Lee had opened a GoFundMe campaign to assist the family in handling expenses that wouldn’t be covered by insurance. However, Lee told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that his father has now decided he no longer wants to continue the business, having lost the motivation to start over. Lee said he believes his father is still trying to process the situation.

The store, on West Harvard Avenue, has been owned by the family since 1990. Joseph Lee said it’s the last standing shoe repair business in Douglas County. The building also houses two other businesses along with two apartments on the backside of the structure. Fire damage was limited to Harvard Shoe Repair.

Lee said the current plan is to work with insurance on rebuilding the structure. He believes that will be at least a six-month process. After that, his parents are planning to donate the building to their church – the Roseburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Joseph Lee said that had always been his parents’ end goal when they retired.

Lee said he is working on refunding GoFundMe donations.

Roseburg Fire Department has not yet released a report, following their investigation into the cause of the fire.
